Icelandic indie and electronic musician Ásgeir turned Iceland's charts upside down overnight with his debut album in 2012. It is a mathematical fact that one in ten Icelanders has Ásgeir's album in their home, relative to Iceland's population. His 72-year-old poet father writes most of the song lyrics. Icelandic-born John Grant is also the name who helped Ásgeir break into international markets through his translation work. With the music video for the 2013 track "King and Cross," he reached 6.5 million viewers, raising aesthetic satisfaction to new heights both visually and aurally. He is among the most-listened-to artists in European metropolises such as Amsterdam and London. Becoming one of the indispensable hits of the music world through The Graduate film, he further increased his recognition with a cover of the Simon and Garfunkel track "Sound of Silence."
