The Ancient Heritage of Anatolia, Troy, Awaits Visitors in Çanakkale
On the 20th anniversary of the acceptance of Troy Ancient City to the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism declared 2018 as "Troy Year". With the support of the Presidency and Prime Ministry, an international-scale culture and tourism initiative was launched to introduce Troy to the world as an ancient value of Anatolia.
During 2018 Troy Year, Çanakkale became a center where the world converges through international cooperation and culture, art, science and sports events.
Throughout 2018 Troy Year, which was requested under the leadership of Çanakkale Governorship and officially announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the cultural, natural and historical values of the entire region, especially Troy Ancient City, continue to be promoted .Visitor Numbers to Troy Year 2018 Doubled
The "2018 Troy Year" launched with the objective of making a major contribution to tourism in Çanakkale and Turkey has begun to see positive returns from the work carried out within this scope. Troy Archaeological Site, which was promoted in all its details at fairs across the world and throughout Turkey, was visited by 76,015 people during the first four months (1 January - 30 April) of 2017 according to turnstile passage statistics, while 142,519 people visited Troy during the same dates in 2018.During 2018 Troy Year, Çanakkale Will Continue to Host Visitors with National and Global-Scale Events
The 2018 Troy Year, with the primary objective of emphasizing that Troy is a civilization of Anatolia and introducing the Troy Legend to the entire world, continues to host both national and international guests. Within the scope of 2018 Troy Year, new travel routes are being opened under the patronage and coordination of the Presidency, Prime Ministry and Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and national-scale culture, art, science and sports events are being conducted throughout the year under local coordination by Çanakkale Governorship. Since the declaration of 2018 Troy Year, it has gained recognition through hosting international-scale events including the International Homeros Literature Festival Writers Meeting, International Troy Children's Folk Dance Festival, International Çanakkale Cycling Festival, International Troy Excavation and Research Archaeometry Symposium, and the renowned Friendship and Peace Rally Europa – Orient Rally Troy Stage. Following the Troy Year Events, which have seen global-level participation and visits to date, the Çanakkale Project Market, Troy Food Festival, Homeros Readings, International Troy Sailing Race, Open Water Race, Troy Horse Short Film Festival, Motor and Sailing Races, Camp Of Troy, Painting and Photography Exhibitions, Music Recitals and many other international-scale culture, art, literature, science and sports events will take place. The most lasting contribution of 2018 Troy Year to Turkey's tourism will be the "Troy Museum". The Troy Museum will be opened at the entrance of Troy Archaeological Site on 100 hectares of land with approximately 10,000 m2 of indoor space. The architectural project of the Troy Museum, which will be one of the world's most important contemporary archaeology museum examples, was selected by an internationally respected jury from more than 150 projects. The aim is for Troy, which has considerable importance for our country and world cultural heritage, to gain international awareness through the Troy Museum and to be placed on the world agenda. The Troy Museum, which will host the legends and myths of 5,000 years of history, will bring eastern and western cultures together in Çanakkale and introduce the Troy civilization to the world.Advertisement
