**Elegance Distilled from Gold**

The Yapı Kredi Museum, located on the first floor of Yapı Kredi Kültür Sanat in Beyoğlu, is presenting "Tombak: Grace Filtered from Gold," an exhibition prepared based on tombak objects from its own collection and opened in partnership with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, and Harbiye Military Museum and Cultural Site Command. The exhibition brings together an forgotten art form of the Ottomans and a hidden treasure with history and art enthusiasts. The exhibition features 138 Ottoman tombak pieces borrowed for the first time together from Turkey's important museums and collections, including Yapı Kredi Collection, Topkapı Palace Museum, Vehbi Koç Foundation Sadberk Hanım Museum, Harbiye Military Museum and Cultural Site Command, Semahat and Nusret Arsel Collection, Çiğdem Simavi Collection, Gökhan Turhan and Göksel Turhan Collection, A. Naim Arnas Collection, Ercan Topçu Collection, and Adell Ab-ı Hayat Collection. The exhibition, which can be visited between 21 November 2018 and 28 April 2019, presents the elegance of Ottoman palace life through dining vessels, cup holders, basins and ewers, incense burners, rose-water sprinklers, and candlesticks that were plated with gold to give objects a golden appearance during the Ottoman period and called tombak. At the same time, the exhibition displays the splendor of military ceremonies through tombak helmets, shields, horse frontlets, and harnesses produced for the Ottoman army. The exhibition, which includes the rarest examples of this gold-plating art unique to the Ottomans, provides an opportunity to see the level achieved by Ottoman artisans in terms of aesthetics and quality.
