Male Statue Dating Back 2,000 Years Discovered

Male Statue from Two Millennia Ago Discovered Gürok Grubu, which has sponsored excavations since 2019, has unearthed a well-preserved male statue dating back two thousand years along with sculptured heads during excavation work at the Aizanoi Ancient City in Çavdarhisar district of Kütahya. During excavation work at the Aizanoi Ancient City, conducted under Gürok Grubu's sponsorship in Çavdarhisar district of Kütahya, a male statue 2 metres 10 centimetres in height dating back two thousand years was unearthed, along with sculptured heads of "Eros," known in Greek mythology as the god of love, "Dionysos," the god of wine, and "Herakles," the demigod.
UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List
Excavation work at the Aizanoi Ancient City in Çavdarhisar district, sponsored by Gürok Grubu, a long-established Turkish company in the industrial, tourism and construction sectors, and listed on UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List, is being carried out by the Archaeology Department of the Faculty of Science and Letters at Kütahya Dumlupınar University (DPU) with 80 workers and 20 technical personnel in the Penkalas Stream, agora and theatre areas. The ancient city, thought to have been one of the metropolises of its era with a history dating back to the 3rd millennium BCE and structures including a theatre, stadium, agora and Temple of Zeus, has had excavations concentrated on the Penkalas Stream. During excavations on the Penkalas Stream, restoration of the No. 2 Roman period marble bridge has been completed, while work continues on the No. 3 bridge, which is completely destroyed.   Gürok Grubu, which began its commercial operations as a family company in Kütahya in 1948, maintains its respected position among Turkey's largest private sector groups in the first part of the 21st century.
