Henkel and LyondellBasell Develop Re-closable Packaging Solution With rising environmental awareness and increasing food prices, consumers are striving to reduce food waste as much as possible. Re-closable packaging is becoming increasingly popular due to its ease of use and ability to keep food fresh longer. Re-closable packaging preserves food flavor by reducing moisture loss or gain and minimizing microbial growth. LyondellBasell (NYSE:LYB) and Henkel have taken an important step by developing re-opening and re-closing features that make re-closable packaging even more convenient for consumers. A Henkel hotmelt adhesive based on an innovative plastomer developed by LyondellBasell features improved re-opening and re-closing properties. The hotmelt adhesive produced by Henkel and melting at final temperature ensures effortless first opening while maintaining re-opening and closing properties even after multiple repeats on amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET) and polyolefin trays thanks to its unique composition. Henkel found this solution more advantageous than previously used technologies. Dirk Kasper, Head of Product Development for European Packaging Adhesives at Henkel, stated: "We are using such a solution for re-closable packaging for the first time. Thanks to product design, our re-closable hotmelt product offers process advantages compared to current market alternatives. This relates to its excellent compatibility with co-extruded materials such as polyethylene (PE) or polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PET-G) and stable film blowing. Additionally, it has long-term re-closability properties."
