Toyo Ink Doubling Lamination Adhesive Production Capacity in Asia Toyo Ink SC Holdings Co., Ltd., the parent company of Tokyo-based specialty materials manufacturer Toyo Ink Group, announced today that it plans to double the production capacity of lamination adhesives at its Malaysia-based subsidiary Toyochem Specialty Chemical Sdn Bhd. Toyo Ink Group plans to strengthen its global supply chain and increase sales of high-functionality and environmentally friendly solutions, such as solvent-free adhesives, whose demand is expected to rise worldwide. In Malaysia, expansion work is underway with full operations scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2023. When operational, Toyochem Specialty Chemical is expected to serve as the primary manufacturing hub for high-performance lamination adhesives in the Asia region, products that represent a core competency area for the Group. Currently, demand for lamination adhesives used to coat multi-layer films in flexible packaging structures is expanding, particularly in Asia, for blister food pouches and pharmaceutical packaging. This includes applications such as PTP (push-through package) layers, a common blister packaging format for pharmaceutical tablets. Growing populations in Asian countries are expected to grow the autoclavable bag sector by approximately 10% over the next five years. Toshinori Machida, Chairman of the Executive Board of Toyo Ink SC Holdings, said: "Toyo Ink Group has long been a pioneer in developing high-performance adhesive solutions together with Toyo-Morton, our subsidiary and a leading lamination adhesive manufacturer in Japan." "Now, in line with our global expansion plan, we want to bring our brand of unique packaging adhesives, coatings and inks to other regions of the world. In addition to Malaysia, we recently strengthened our production infrastructure in China and Turkey. Our facility in Turkey is being prepared to serve as a supply center for markets in the Middle East and North Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. To ensure stable supply to meet future demand, we have set a target to increase our global production capacity for lamination adhesives to one and a half times the current level by the end of 2027."
