Sika Acquires Liquid Waterproofing Company in the USA
Sika has acquired United Gilsonite Laboratories (UGL), a manufacturer of products recognized for consumer and DIY liquid waterproofing applications in the United States. The company's product portfolio is sold through distribution channels and found in major retailers across the US. The acquired business unit represents an excellent complement to Sika's high-value systems for concrete and wall waterproofing and renovation. In 2021, UGL generated sales of CHF 65 million.
UGL is an established company offering consumer and DIY liquid waterproofing products with a strong presence in distribution channels. Headquartered and manufacturing in Scranton, Pennsylvania, with two additional production facilities in Illinois and Mississippi, UGL is well positioned to efficiently supply its products to customers across all regions of the country. For Sika, this acquisition means expanding its offerings and creating cross-selling opportunities to increase its presence with major retailers and other building material stores.
In the residential segment in the US, demand for waterproof basements is expected to grow at above-average rates in the coming years as homeowners renovate their homes and create more valuable living spaces with basement coverings.
In commercial construction, the need for waterproof basement levels continues to grow to maximize building utilization and protect valuable assets and investments. With the combined offerings of both companies, Sika can now benefit from growth trends in both residential and commercial construction segments.
Christoph Ganz, Regional Director Americas, said: "UGL is an excellent complement to Sika's existing portfolio. UGL brands are well recognized in the US, and consumer and DIY waterproofing solutions enable Sika to expand its business in the US construction industry. We welcome all UGL employees to our Sika team."
