H.B. Fuller Publishes 2021 Sustainability Report
H.B. Fuller Company, a leading global adhesive provider, released its 2021 Sustainability Report, demonstrating strong performance toward its 2025 targets while underscoring continued progress in establishing a solid sustainability foundation.
Jim Owens, President and CEO of H.B. Fuller, stated: "We view sustainability as a fundamental responsibility and strategic priority that touches every area of our business. Our commitment to developing adhesive technologies that help customers achieve their sustainability goals and operating H.B. Fuller to reach our own is gaining momentum across all key global metrics. These efforts are driving positive change not only within our company, but in the industries and communities in which we operate."
Key highlights from this year's report include:
• Continued alignment of 2021 disclosures with GRI Standards, the Carbon Disclosure Project and UN Sustainable Development Goals, while adding the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) as an additional reporting framework. • Established a new multidisciplinary sustainability technical subcommittee to better coordinate ESG (environmental, social, governance) initiatives at the operations level. • Created three enhanced H.B. Fuller Employee Network Groups (ENG) to help connect employees, build community and support skills development, supported by principles of diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity. • Reported on numerous commercialized products providing sustainable customer innovations in solar energy, electric vehicles, packaging and energy-efficient buildings. • Donated approximately USD 1.3 million to positively impact vulnerable communities in 25 countries and increased employee volunteering, organizational partnerships and corporate social responsibility programs. • H.B. Fuller plans to reduce energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity by 20% and waste and water intensity by 10% by 2025, compared to the 2014 baseline year. As of the end of 2021, the company continues to record steady progress against four primary targets and is ahead of schedule in water withdrawal and waste measurement reporting. The company's most significant contributions to sustainability are through product innovation, reducing the environmental impact of production processes and improving the sustainable performance of products manufactured with adhesive solutions. H.B. Fuller, with formulations aimed at adhering and sealing a wide range of materials, focuses on solving challenges faced by manufacturers—such as helping packaging producers reduce downstream waste, assisting building and construction professionals in increasing energy efficiency, and enabling disposable goods designers in creating environmentally conscious consumer products. Owens concluded: "We believe our responsibility for improvement never ends, and we are constantly looking for new ways to integrate our environmental, social and governance principles into everything we do. H.B. Fuller connects what matters in creating a better world for future generations throughout our company and globally. We are driving sustainable practices in our internal operations and our approach to R&D. We are building strong employee networks to strengthen our high-performing, diverse culture. We are investing in nonprofit programs that help young people become tomorrow's leaders, offer opportunities to improve racial equity and enhance the economic circumstances of marginalized populations in developing countries."
