DELO Introduces Dual-Cure, High-Temperature Adhesive DELO, a leading global manufacturer of industrial adhesives for automotive, electronics and semiconductor producers, has developed the first dual-cure, high-temperature adhesive for electric motor applications. DELO DUALBOND HT2990 is designed for use in numerous processes in electric motor production, including magnet bonding and magnet stacking. DELO developed DELO DUALBOND HT2990 to meet high demand for durable adhesives in bonding electric motors and efficient processes that facilitate production. DELO DUALBOND HT2990 is the first high-temperature adhesive with light-fixation capability. This additional curing method enables electric motor manufacturers to accelerate assembly processes and optimize production efficiency, providing light fixation within 5 to 10 seconds. In magnet bonding, while heat is the standard curing method, supplementing it with light fixation creates a pre-cured outer layer that helps hold all elements in place. The adhesive does not seep outward or onto motor laminations. In magnet stacking, supporting heat curing with light fixation eliminates the need to hold magnets under a jig in an oven to achieve the desired adhesive line thickness. Final curing with heat takes 30 minutes at 150°C or 60 minutes at 130°C. In electric motor assembly, if the component is subsequently exposed to heat, for example through heat shrinking, it is possible to skip the heat-curing step. Induction curing can also serve as an alternative to oven curing. At room temperature, DUALBOND HT2990 achieves shear strength in compression of up to 70 MPa on steel, compared to 45 MPa achieved by standard high-performance heat-cured epoxies. It also has a high glass transition temperature of 165°C. At extreme heat up to 180°C, it still shows a tensile shear strength of 7 MPa on aluminum. This is equivalent to a force of 70 kg/cm² and creates a very strong bond. Source
