Devan Launches Bio-Based Fragrance Series for Textiles
Textile innovator Devan is launching a new bio-based fragrance series under the SceNTL® brand. The product range uses traceable raw materials, and an external laboratory has confirmed that fragrances contain over 85% bio-based content.
SceNTL® is a unique and broad range of encapsulated fragrances that can be integrated into fabric and released gradually over time. After release, the fragrances appeal to the senses and promote feelings of relaxation, well-being and comfort.
While synthetic fragrances are composed of synthetic, man-made components, natural fragrances and oils are created by isolating natural aroma components from raw plant materials. This also explains why each SceNTL® batch may have slight variations in scent. Since natural conditions vary from time to time, every harvest differs slightly from the previous one.
Although aromatherapy remains a young and under-researched field, recent studies have shown that essential oils can indeed have neurological effects. For instance, Linalool, a component found in lavender and rosewood, has been discovered to improve sleep, while Limonene, a component found in citrus peel, has been clinically proven to have an invigorating effect.
Currently, the SceNTL® series is designed for lightly-washed products such as bedding fabrics, decorative pillows, upholstery, curtains, carpets, etc. It can also be used as a natural 'masking fragrance' for products with a strong artificial odour resulting from the production process. The company is currently exploring further development of other fragrances and broader application uses.
