Zorlu Enerji Advances Leadership Position Zorlu Enerji continues working toward a better future in line with its Smart Life 2030 strategy. Through Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) activities focused on producing sustainable solutions to the world's fundamental challenges, Zorlu Enerji ranked 4th among 54 energy companies globally according to an assessment by independent rating and research organization Vigeo Eiris. Zorlu Enerji continues to enhance its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance. The company, which aims to become a facilitator of sustainable and renewable growth models in Turkey by making sustainability a business practice, has had its ESG activities evaluated by independent rating and research organization Vigeo Eiris since 2018. Following the 2021 assessment by Vigeo Eiris, Zorlu Enerji increased its performance score by 8 points compared to the previous year, placing it 4th among 54 energy companies.

Smart Life 2030 strategy

Zorlu Enerji Chief Executive Officer Sinan Ak highlighted that Zorlu Enerji leads the sector through sustainable solutions and research and development work based on smart technologies, which the company has developed by making investments focused on stakeholders, communities and the planet. Ak stated that in line with the Smart Life 2030 strategy, they aim to generate the highest value for stakeholders in environmental, social and governance areas. He said: "We assess the areas we will focus on in our long-term value creation journey under the headings 'Regenerative Operations and Value Chain', 'Impact-Driven Growth' and 'People and Culture'. Through our targets under these headings, addressing our environmental, social and governance priorities, we define our short, medium and long-term roadmap and regularly evaluate our performance through the rating company. As a result of the assessment carried out by Vigeo Eiris, a world-renowned independent auditor expert in ESG risk assessment, in 2021, we obtained a performance score of 57 out of 100 and were ranked 4th among 54 energy companies globally. We are aware that ESG criteria, which hold an important place in the policies that prepare our company for the future, are extremely important in terms of sustainability and value creation for all our stakeholders. With our transparent and ethical business approach and integrated perspective, we work to minimize today's and tomorrow's risks while creating new opportunities and positive impact," he said.

Carbon neutral company by 2035

Stating that Zorlu Enerji will become a carbon neutral company by 2035 without waiting until 2050, Sinan Ak said: "Companies need to make certain commitments to raise their ESG ratings. Because we have made commitments to reduce our emissions, rating agencies are monitoring us, and what matters at this point is fulfilling these commitments. Currently, all our systems are transparent and our outputs are open to all our stakeholders. When your ESG rating goes above 60, it means you are in a very good position in a developing country. Our goal is to have predictable, transparent management while also being an environmentally sustainable company that adds value to society. We have set targets for ourselves here as well. We plan to exceed 60 next year. In line with this target, we will identify areas that need to be worked on and focus on taking action quickly. We will have commitments such as exiting natural gas power plants and making Osmangazi carbon neutral. As we achieve these, both our rating will increase and more people will want to participate in what we do. We want our investors to see us as the company of the future. We need people who want to be part of the company's future, not its present."

Voluntary Reporting to CDP Platform

Since 2010, Zorlu Enerji has voluntarily submitted official reports to the CDP Platform (Carbon Disclosure Project), which measures and evaluates the environmental performance of thousands of companies with the aim of reducing the effects of the climate crisis and protecting natural assets. The CDP Platform operates as a non-profit international organization that enables companies to transparently share their carbon footprint, water footprint and their performance, strategy and targets in this area with stakeholders. According to the detailed rating results of Zorlu Enerji in CDP's 2021 Climate Change and Water Security Program, the company achieved a 'B' rating in the Climate Change and Water Security programs. The company continues its work in line with its net zero emissions commitment by 2030.   Source
