Green Transformation Cooperation Protocol Signed

Organize Sanayi Bölgeleri Üst Kuruluşu (OSBÜK) and the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) have signed a "Green Transformation Cooperation Protocol" to prepare organized industrial zones (OSBs) and their industrialists for the green transition process. Under the protocol signed by OSBÜK President Memiş Kütükcü and TSE President Mahmut Sami Şahin, training will be provided to OSB legal entities and participating industrialists on greenhouse gas emission calculation, reporting, verification, product carbon footprint and water footprint standards. Workshops will also be organized to contribute to the development of technical capacity of OSBs in green transformation, and decarbonization efforts will be carried out to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Speaking at the protocol signing ceremony, OSBÜK President Memiş Kütükcü emphasized that TSE is an institution OSBÜK has always worked closely with, and recalled that last year, under a cooperation protocol signed with TSE in the areas of standardization, training, certification, inspection and oversight, testing and calibration, education and certification activities were carried out for OSBs. Emphasizing the importance of the Green Transformation Cooperation Protocol signed by OSBÜK and TSE, Kütükcü stated that they have carried out numerous works to prepare OSBs, which are the locomotive of Turkish industry, for the green transition process, and that the protocol signed with TSE is one of these efforts. Underlining their determination to make OSBs role models for Turkish industry in this transformation process, Kütükcü continued his remarks as follows: "We are conducting intensive work to prepare our OSBs for this transformation process in the strongest possible way. So far, we have conducted numerous awareness-raising and guidance activities for our community, such as informational seminars, training sessions, conferences and workshops on topics such as the green deal process, carbon trading and carbon tax." Emphasizing that they are working continuously on renewable energy, which is one of the most important topics of the green transition process, Kütükcü underlined that their goal is to at least double the renewable energy capacity in OSBs, currently 1,316 megawatts, by 2030, and continued as follows: "In line with this goal, we have signed a cooperation protocol with our Kuwait Turkish Participation Bank that will enable our OSB legal entities and participating industrialists to finance rooftop solar power plant investments at more affordable costs. The Green OSB Project, which we continue to work on under the leadership of our Ministry of Industry and Technology, will also be one of the strongest steps supporting the green transition of our OSBs. Hopefully, the protocol we signed with TSE will make very important contributions to the green transition process of our organized industrial zones." Speaking at the ceremony, TSE President Mahmut Sami Şahin stated that OSBs have made significant contributions to Turkey's industrialization, and that as an institution, they will be in much closer cooperation with OSBs and OSBÜK. Explaining that TSE is an organization that prepares and supervises standards, but that it is very important for industrialists to contribute by taking part in TSE's mirror committees in the preparation of these standards, Şahin expressed the following: "Our institute, which has duties and responsibilities in dozens of service areas, serves as a key player in opening doors that global markets present to our industrialists through standardization and conformity assessment services in high value-added production, increased industrial efficiency and digital transformation, which are targets set by our Ministry of Industry and Technology. I would like to remind once again of the importance of our producers closely following standard-setting work in order to achieve sustainable success and compete in international markets. As TSE, we are ready to provide all kinds of support to our industrialists." Stating that they have the capacity to provide both supervision and conformity assessment services on site in order to use public resources more effectively and efficiently, Şahin concluded his remarks as follows: "In this regard, we wish to carry out work together with you in the field to increase our cooperation. As an institution, we will maintain much closer dialogue with you. We will make every effort to resolve all issues that will be conveyed to us in accordance with our industrialists' needs."
