New Tecnoflon® SHP Product Series Solvay Expands Industrial FFKM Portfolio with New Tecnoflon® SHP Product Series The new product series comprises fully fluorinated synthetic rubbers featuring class-leading chemical resistance and the highest heat resistance among all elastomers. Solvay, one of the world's leading companies in fluorochemistry, has launched Tecnoflon® SHP, a new product series of fully fluorinated synthetic rubbers (FFKM) that expands the company's offering for unmatched performance in demanding industrial environments. Andrew Lau, Senior Vice President of Solvay Materials, states, "There are an increasing number of industrial processes where operators seek to minimize maintenance requirements and enhance safety. Components such as seals and valves in these processes are exposed to aggressive chemicals and elevated service temperatures, but may not require the ultra-low metal levels provided by our Tecnoflon® PFR products. Our new Tecnoflon® SHP rubbers' superior thermal and chemical resistance offer potential for demanding, low-maintenance applications that can enable significant improvements in the design and automation of many complex processes, such as chemical engineering, semiconductor manufacturing, and the oil and gas industry." (Photo: Solvay, PR073)[/caption] Solvay's new Tecnoflon® SHP products combine classic FFKM performance with unique properties specifically designed for challenging environments. Individual grades can meet extreme thermal requirements such as heat stability up to 315°C and cold flexibility down to -30°C. With class-leading resistance to fluids and chemicals used in the oil and gas industry and chemical processing among all elastomers, they also provide mechanical strength and flexibility for components that can withstand higher pressures. This can be beneficial in protecting people and equipment against leakage of harsh chemicals. Typical applications include O-rings, seals, and flanges for greater safety and longer durability under the most demanding operating conditions and address 'lifetime sealing' objectives (for example, in complex service exploration or refinery equipment). The new FFKM rubbers also meet the requirements of components designed for sub-fab semiconductor processes. Most Tecnoflon® SHP grades are commercially available worldwide. All are easily processed from compound mixing on two-roll mills without requiring exotic chemicals and preferably simple pre-forming through twin-screw extruders, to low-shrinkage molding and vulcanization. They offer short cure cycles from 150°C to 180°C and require maximum 24 hours final vulcanization in standard air-circulation ovens. Standard mills, presses, tools, and ovens proven in the processing of partially fluorinated FKM elastomers can also be used for Tecnoflon® SHP. Tecnoflon® is a registered trademark of Solvay.
