Varaka Kâğıt Recycles 250,000 Tons of Paper Annually
Varaka Kâğıt, which adopts sustainable energy and recycling as its mission, builds its production on 100% waste paper. Collecting 250,000 tons of waste paper annually and converting it into finished products, Varaka Kâğıt produces its own energy through sustainable energy systems established within the factory.
Varaka Kâğıt facilities, which use only waste paper rather than trees as raw material and consume 5 times less water and energy than many similar plants, emerge as an important example for sustainability initiatives. Holding certifications such as ISO 50001 Energy Management System and Zero Waste Certificate, Varaka has included an Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility and Solar Power Project in its 2023-2025 plan.
Determining sustainability as the foundation of production, Varaka returns paper and packaging waste to the economy by utilizing 100% waste paper.
Full commitment to sustainable energy savings
The Varaka Kâğıt facility located in Balıkesir, which establishes its own energy from internal resources, achieves significant savings not only in the production of 250,000 tons of packaging paper annually but also in the sustainable energy sector. Varaka, which built its own cogeneration facility to meet steam and electrical energy requirements from a sustainability perspective, reached an electrical generation capacity of 320,000 MW. With the latest technology FGD flue gas treatment systems used in the facility, emissions remain below legal limits while environmental consciousness is emphasized, and sustainable energy savings are ensured through a high-efficiency steam turbine. The cogeneration facility not only generates electricity; it also meets the facility's drying requirements with a maximum steam production capacity of 150 tons per hour. By using energy resources correctly and efficiently while placing the factory's environmental responsibility in the foreground, wastewater from the process is treated in a treatment facility consisting of physical, chemical and biological treatment units with a daily capacity of 9,400 cubic meters and discharged.
