Universities and Industrialists Meet at Workshop on Green Industrial Zones
A workshop on "Effects of Climate Change on Industry and Solutions" was held by Uşak University in collaboration with the Uşak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UTSO) and Uşak Organized Industrial Zone.
Selim Kandemir, Chairman of the Board of UTSO, who delivered the opening remarks of the workshop, emphasized that the developing green accord concept is causing a shift in industrial zones and that the green industrial zone concept is being projected worldwide.
Kandemir, addressing the environmental impacts of the recycling sector, continued as follows:
"In our province, where the recycling sector is located in the form of natural clustering, in addition to the industrial zones selected as pilot regions for the green industrial zone, we have previously communicated to the relevant ministries that our Uşak and Mixed Industrial Zones should also be pilot regions. Our work on this matter will continue."
Nature and environment are essential for all of us
Rector Savaş noted that the prosperity, increased productivity, comfort and high living standards provided by economic development and technological progress cannot be denied, but that the pressures caused by population growth, excessive urbanization and industrialization are reaching destructive dimensions on our ecosystem. Pointing out that reckless capitalism and profit hunger are destroying nature day by day, Prof. Dr. Savaş said, "In the face of this destruction, natural disasters such as floods, droughts and fires are increasing. In this respect, we must carefully maintain the delicate balance between industrialization and nature conservation. In our world shaped by modern man's needs and lifestyle, industrialization is inevitable and a basic necessity; saying this does not create a contradiction in environmental protection and its preservation. In today's dynamics, it is within our reach to combat major changes in the ecosystem and build a more livable world. As members of a civilization that advises respect for humans, living creatures and all of nature, this is also a duty for us. Following the guidance of our Prophet, 'Plant the sapling in your hand even if you know the Last Day is coming!', we must take care of and protect our nature," he said.We will make Uşak greener together
Reminding that this was the second activity of the workshop on the topic, Prof. Dr. Savaş explained: "I believe that our workshop will develop awareness to fulfill the obligations in the international agreements that we have signed as a country to take measures that will minimize the negative effects of global warming and climate change on industry. As a natural consequence of this awareness, this workshop will also make a significant contribution to the motto of a more livable environment. To be a solution to climate change, Uşak University, UTSO, our organized and industrial zones, our industrialists, in short all of Uşak have joined hands. I thank all those who contributed." The workshop ended following presentations after the opening remarks.Advertisement
