Turkcell Implements Energy Storage System
Turkcell, which conducts all business processes with a sustainability-focused environmental approach, has implemented the first example of an artificial intelligence-based energy storage system at base stations in partnership with technology solution provider Huawei in Antalya.
Turkcell continues collaborations aimed at implementing technological applications for energy savings. Adding a new partnership to its existing cooperation with Huawei, the company has implemented the first example of an energy storage system application at base stations in Antalya. Thanks to the system, which works by analyzing data with artificial intelligence technology and developing digital solutions, renewable energy obtained from the sun can be stored in lithium batteries. This ensures service continuity at the base station without being affected by energy cuts and reduces carbon emissions through the use of renewable energy.

Turkcell Adds Another Achievement to Its Sustainability Work
Gediz Sezgin, Deputy General Manager responsible for Turkcell Network Technologies, made statements on the subject. Sezgin said: "As an environmentally friendly company that always pays attention to developing sustainability work, we continue to produce solutions to reduce environmental impact at our base stations, data centers and office buildings. In this context, we implement new ideas and applications in our network with our technology solution partners."Achieving Significant Energy Savings and Lower Carbon Emissions Through Solar Energy
Sezgin noted that in February at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, they took a new step by signing strategic partnership agreements in the field of sustainability with Huawei, with whom they have maintained a partnership for years, and said: "Within the scope of our partnership in this context, we are demonstrating that the energy storage system solution we developed on a pilot basis, using solar energy, provides significant energy savings along with lower carbon emissions. With this energy savings we achieve by also using innovative artificial intelligence technology capabilities, while contributing to the country's economy and our environmental awareness, we are pleased to see concrete results that will reduce carbon impact. We will continue to implement innovative first applications in this field that will serve as an example in Turkey.""Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy are Among the Core Strategies of Both Huawei and Turkcell"
Jing Li, General Manager of Huawei Turkey, stated: "Sustainable development and renewable energy are among the core strategies of both Huawei and Turkcell. The base station we developed for Turkcell in Antalya is a site where Huawei's artificial intelligence-supported solar-lithium synergy end-to-end green field solution is applied. Turkcell and Huawei teams measuring the base station's artificial intelligence capability and solar energy storage capacity recorded successful results. We also saw that the energy the site generates from the sun covers an average of 70 percent of its daily energy consumption. As the main provider of communication and digital energy infrastructure for Turkey, we will continue to produce sustainable and renewable solutions for Turkey."The Station's Energy Needs are Supplied from Electricity Generated by Solar Panels and Lithium Batteries Charged with Solar Energy
According to the statement made, installation was carried out at the base station designated within the project scope using solar panels, lithium batteries and an energy management system operated by artificial intelligence technologies. Thanks to this system, the station's energy needs are met from electricity generated by solar panels and lithium batteries charged with solar energy. The management system operated by artificial intelligence technology calculates and manages which source will meet the energy needs by analyzing data obtained from field conditions. It is anticipated that more advantage will be taken from solar energy during the summer period when solar radiation periods are longer.Advertisement
