The Vinyl Institute released a report outlining the advantages of PVC piping in water infrastructure. The Vinyl Institute states that through this report it aims to combat common misconceptions about PVC's environmental impact while demonstrating that PVC is rigorously tested and therefore represents the safest and best choice for water infrastructure worldwide. President and CEO Ned Monroe said, "It is not possible to compare the performance of PVC with other pipe types used in water infrastructure. PVC has decades of history as the most successful material in providing clean and safe drinking water, and this is supported by research-based evidence." According to the report, PVC pipes perform better than competitors in many respects, particularly in terms of efficiency, durability and cost reduction. The report states that PVC pipes are manufactured to demonstrate durability of up to 100 years and that PVC uses significantly less energy throughout its entire life cycle compared to other pipe materials. The report also notes that PVC is the most durable material on the market, which results in significant reductions in replacement and repair costs. Source
