Agricultural Packaging Waste Project Making Positive Progress
The "Collection and Disposal Project for Packaging Waste of Plant Protection and Nutrition Products," which aims to increase awareness and sensitivity regarding agricultural packaging waste through rural awareness and training activities, has achieved 54 percent of its targets during the 15 months since its launch.
The September meeting of the Agricultural Pollution Control Commission, established by the Aydın Provincial Water Management Coordination Board, was held under the auspices of the Aydın Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Directorate.
The meeting, held in the Olive Meeting Hall under the chairmanship of Aydın Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Deputy Director Yılmaz Bozkır, was attended by Branch Director Mehmet Çakmak, representatives from the DSİ 21st Regional Directorate, the Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change Provincial Directorate, Adnan Menderes Irrigation Union, Efeler Chamber of Agriculture, Gencelli Irrigation Cooperative, and relevant technical personnel.
At the meeting, the commission's decisions made in March and the implementation status of activities carried out by the Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Directorate were discussed. Evaluations were made and decisions were taken on Efficient Water Use and Good Agricultural Practices.
In a statement issued by the Aydın Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Directorate regarding the meeting: "The September meeting number 2022/2 of the Agricultural Pollution Control Commission, established by the Aydın Provincial Water Management Coordination Board, has been held.
At the meeting, the decisions made by the commission in March number 2022/1 and the implementation status of activities carried out by the Provincial Directorate were presented to members.
Evaluations were made and decisions were taken on Efficient Water Use and Good Agricultural Practices. The three-year "Collection and Disposal Project for Packaging Waste of Plant Protection and Nutrition Products," which was implemented in July of last year, has achieved 54 percent of its targets during the 15-month period.
Additionally, with the contributions of the Söke Plain Irrigation Union Directorate, a new project was launched on 01.06.2022 to carry out disposal activities for chemical waste to be collected in cages placed in the Söke Plain.
The projects aim to reduce the agricultural pollution burden on soil and water resources. The participation information and decisions of the Agricultural Pollution Control Commission meeting will be presented to the Provincial Water Management Coordination Board" the statement read.
