Artun Kazancı, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kazancı Çevre Tekniği, which operates Rielli, Türkiye's global water treatment brand at Rielli, stated that industrial facilities can achieve wastewater recovery, recycling and reuse rates of 90-95%, recover investments in less than a year, reduce water costs by nearly half, and achieve 40% savings on household water bills. 22 March World Water Day was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993 to raise awareness about the importance of water. From human life to natural ecosystems, from domestic use to industrial production processes, water is at the center of life and is a far more limited resource than we realize. The fact that less than 1% of the world's water is naturally accessible and usable demonstrates clearly the importance of wastewater recovery, recycling and reuse in both domestic and industrial applications. [caption id="attachment_160394" align="aligncenter"] Artun Kazancı[/caption] Artun Kazancı stated that water basins and sources are at risk due to climate change, increasing need for proper water efficiency solutions in both industrial facilities and homes, as well as regulations related to sustainability and water quality and rising water costs. He continued his remarks as follows: "One-fifth of global water consumption occurs in industry. In our country, this situation is relatively better. Industry accounts for less than 15% of Türkiye's water consumption; however, without preventive measures there is a risk that this ratio will increase to and exceed 20% in less than 10 years. Water required in all industrial processes imposes serious costs on businesses. On the other hand, resource efficiency with a focus on sustainability is gaining importance in global value chains. With our Rielli brand, which has over 30 years of solid experience in water recovery, recycling and reuse and is preferred in 6 continents and more than 80 countries, the innovative solutions we provide enable more efficient water use, reducing both costs and environmental impact. With our solutions under the Rielli brand, we can achieve wastewater recovery rates of 90-95% in industrial facilities. This enables significant savings of approximately 50% in water costs for industrial facilities and important improvements in sustainability parameters such as water consumption per production unit. We also offer industrial facilities the advantage that their investments in this field recover themselves in less than a year. For this, we first evaluate the facility's different types of wastewater and the areas where they can be recovered and reused, then we establish our Rielli wastewater recovery facility in a design that will be in perfect harmony with the facility during management, engineering and implementation phases." Artun Kazancı stated that Rielli reached an important milestone in greywater treatment in our country in 2023. "In 2023, we built nearly half of the greywater treatment facilities established in our country. By successfully meeting approximately 50% of Türkiye's greywater treatment market, we contributed to both our customers' operations and environmental sustainability. Our goal for the new year is to further increase this ratio, advance our environmental responsibility further and contribute more to the protection of our water resources," he said. Artun Kazancı continued his remarks as follows: "In parallel with the increasing importance of environmental sustainability in global value chains, water recycling and treatment issues stand out in this context with more added value in terms of both efficiency and environmental performance. For example, in industrial production, it is possible to achieve efficiency gains beyond just recovering water from wastewater treatment facility water in factories. Focusing on separating and recovering waters used in various stages of the facility and processes while they are still in a stage that can be easily recovered will enable the construction of much more efficient recovery facilities in industrial production.
Water Savings of Up to 40%
Artun Kazancı emphasized that wastewater recovery, recycling and reuse are possible not only for industrial facilities but also for domestic water in buildings used as residences or for commercial or service purposes. "In fact, the process is simpler for domestic water. By recovering greywater from sinks and showers, which accounts for 40% of human consumption in buildings, it is possible to achieve 40% savings in water consumption and water bills. In addition, the quality of recovered water is often higher than raw water. With Rielli MBR technology, we enable effective and efficient recovery of greywater in buildings, transformation into odorless and stain-free water, and reuse for many purposes including toilets and irrigation. The energy consumption of the systems we install in buildings is very low, these systems require minimal maintenance and replacement of consumables over their long service life, and operation and maintenance are extremely easy. Investments made in this area pay for themselves in less than a year," he said.
Less Than 1% of the World's Water is Suitable for Use by Living Organisms
Artun Kazancı also noted that conscious use of water is a responsibility for all of humanity. "Although 71% of our planet consists of water, oceans and seas make up 96% of this water. Freshwater suitable for human and living organism consumption, agricultural activities, and industrial applications in its natural state accounts for only 3% of the world's water, and much of this water is found in glaciers, soil or the atmosphere. The portion available for use by humans and all other living organisms is less than 1% of all water on Earth. Experts warn of the risk of water conflicts in the coming period. The efficient and economical use of such a vital and limited resource, recovery, recycling and reuse of water used in homes and industry are very important," he stated.
