Solvay, a global leader in high-performance polymers and composite materials, has signed a multi-million euro agreement with Agru, its long-term partner specializing in engineering polymer applications. The agreement includes supplying Agru with the highest quality Solef® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and providing regular supply to create ultra-pure water pipe systems in the expanding semiconductor sector. Peter Browning, Head of Solvay Specialty Polymers Global Business Unit, said: "Over the past forty years, our teams have worked intensively with Agru. Thanks to Solvay's high-purity resins and Agru's advanced engineering services, our teams working together have been able to develop new applications jointly in the semiconductor sector, one of the growing important markets, and significantly improved the cleanliness of pipe systems. This agreement further strengthens the bond between our companies. We look forward to continuing to grow our partnership with Agru." Solvay's Solef® PVDF resins, the industry's reference thermoplastic fluoropolymers, are widely used in pipes, hoses and fittings used in water pipe systems in the semiconductor industry due to their exceptional purity. Unlike many other plastics, these plastics do not require stabilizers, plasticizers, lubricants or flame retardant additives. Their chemical inertness and virtually zero contaminant emissions make natural Solef® PVDF particularly suitable for semiconductor industry applications, including distribution systems and ultra-pure liquid components. High-purity Solef® PVDF is based on 100 percent pure polymer raw material containing no additives and is produced on a dedicated line to prevent any cross-contamination. Offering a smooth surface, Solef® PVDF resins have a low coefficient of friction that prevents bio-film formation and bacterial growth, making them suitable for a wide variety of high-tech applications in the semiconductor industry in thin-film transistor (TFT) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) production and in life sciences, food and photovoltaic industries. As a neat resin with balanced processability and superior mechanical properties, Solef® PVDF makes it an ideal solution for high-pressure pipe systems. Source
