Şişecam is developing an artificial intelligence project with support from TÜBİTAK to eliminate color defects during glass production, reducing both waste rates in manufacturing and carbon emissions. Şişecam, which continues its work at full speed toward a sustainable world and more efficient production processes, has launched the Color Optimization through Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Methods Project (CROP). This project will eliminate color defects that arise during production while reducing waste rates in manufacturing and associated carbon emissions. Şişecam is implementing the project as a consortium partner with Koç University, TÜBİTAK Artificial Intelligence Institute and Analythinx Information Technology Services. The project scope includes developing an infrastructure that minimizes color variations and enables artificial intelligence models to identify the root causes of potential color-related issues in glass production, delivering rapid solutions. Through the project developed to enhance color quality in the glass industry, the goal is to integrate technology and expertise in artificial intelligence into production and contribute to national knowledge accumulation. Initial work on the project will begin at Şişecam's Eskişehir Glassware Factory and will run for 2 years. Following completion of the project, which once again demonstrates Şişecam's commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, significant impact is expected through transfer of the findings to other facilities. CROP, one of 17 projects supported as a result of TÜBİTAK's 2023 1711 Artificial Intelligence Ecosystem Call, incorporates modeling that will manage the change created by artificial intelligence, achieve results for the benefit of humanity, generate value from artificial intelligence, and contribute to the goal of full independence in critical technologies.       Şişecam Founded in 1935 following the vision of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the globally respected leader who established the Turkish glass sector, Şişecam is a strong global player in glass and chemicals. Şişecam is the only global company operating across all major glass sectors including flat glass, glassware, glass packaging and glass fiber, and ranks among the world's two largest producers in glassware and the five largest in glass packaging and flat glass. Beyond being among the world's three largest soda producers, Şişecam is the global leader in chromium chemicals. A pioneer in flat glass, glassware, glass packaging, chemicals, automotive, glass fiber, mining, energy and recycling divisions, Şişecam conducts production activities in Turkey and in Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russian Federation, Georgia, Ukraine, Egypt, India and the United States. With skilled human resources and smart technologies, Şişecam is making strong progress toward its goal of becoming one of the world's three largest producers in its core business areas, and continues to consistently transform its digital infrastructure and culture while considering the needs of tomorrow. With 88 years of experience, more than 25,000 employees, production activities spanning 14 countries across four continents and a sales network covering over 150 countries, Şişecam continues its growth journey with an inclusive approach that supports the development of its entire ecosystem.
