Sapro switches to 100% renewable green energy

Sapro has begun using 100 percent renewable green energy sourced from natural resources that produce no emissions at its facilities. Sapro has added another step to its initiatives under the principles of sustainability and environmental responsibility. Operating in a 73,000 square-meter enclosed area at its facilities equipped with state-of-the-art technological infrastructure, the company will use 100 percent renewable green energy sourced from natural resources that produce renewable energy and zero emissions.

Joined companies holding 'Renewable Energy Certificate'

Sapro, one of Europe's four largest private label manufacturers, continues to invest in projects to reduce its environmental impact by adopting an environmentally conscious production process. Following this strategy, Sapro launched its 'Green Energy' transition and took its place among companies holding the 'Renewable Energy Certificate'. Sapro also commits to using energy only from renewable energy sources in its electricity consumption. By holding a renewable energy certificate, the company thus documents that the energy it uses comes from renewable sources in a transparent and traceable manner with international validity.

Sapro General Manager Murat Gönül made remarks on the matter. Gönül said that the transition to renewable energy is an important step in Sapro's sustainability journey. Gönül stated, "Renewable energy sources produce less greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels. In this way, they play an important role in combating global warming and climate change. With this step, we are demonstrating our environmental responsibility and accountability to future generations. We always keep sustainability on our agenda, and in this context, we have been publishing our sustainability report since 2019. Our goal is to become a 'Carbon Neutral' company, and we define all our sustainability activities serving this goal with our motto 'In Every Moment of Life, By Your Side'."

"Our target is to reduce scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90 percent by 2045"

Gönül, mentioning that they have increased energy efficiency through the ISO 50001 energy management system as part of sustainability efforts, said, "In 2022, we reduced our total greenhouse gas emission value by 6 percent, reducing our carbon emissions by an amount equivalent to the benefit provided by more than 800,000 trees. By 2030, we aim to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 42 percent and scope 3 emissions by 25 percent. Our long-term target is to reduce scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90 percent by 2045. Our target is also aligned with the 1.5-degree global temperature increase roadmap. Our institution, which ranks among Turkey's companies making the most sustainability investments in its field, will continue to undertake new initiatives in line with our sustainability goals," he said.
