Sanofi Turkey has published its 2021 Sustainability Report, which outlines sustainability policies implemented with a #morepossible approach to leave a more livable world for future generations. The report comprehensively presents Sanofi Turkey's sustainability priorities organized under four main headings to achieve its targets: "Access to Health, Research and Development for Unmet Needs, Healthy Planet and Inclusive Workplace." The report also documents the company's work in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since 2017 and its contributions to these objectives.
Pınar Kaya, Corporate Communications Director of Sanofi Turkey and Levant, made the following statement on the matter:
"We work with awareness of the responsibilities that come with being a good corporate citizen, alongside our local production, investments and employment in Turkey. In this respect, we report on our initiatives in accordance with international standards and principles. This year we published our eighth Sustainability Report and disclosed the added value we have created in Turkey under our sustainability priorities organized under four main headings through our implemented activities. Sanofi is a brand that has integrated sustainability into all business priorities to provide a healthier future for all people in the world. As Sanofi Turkey, we are turning our company's global corporate social responsibility commitments into reality through sustainable projects and initiatives we conduct in our country. We work with a "more is possible" approach to sustainability, and it is exciting for us to see the results of the added value we create in our country as well as in the world. We remain committed to providing meaningful and sustainable contributions to the lives of all people in our country."
Access to Health
Sanofi launched the Diabetes in School Program in November 2010 in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Health to address problems experienced by diabetic children at school. The Diabetes in School Program, successfully implemented for eleven years, aims to support early diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and raise awareness about diabetes among students, parents, teachers and school staff while improving the quality of life of diabetic children at school. Implemented by the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Health and the Turkish Society of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes with unconditional support from Sanofi Turkey, the program has reached 60,000 schools, 585,000 teachers, 580,000 parents and 7.5 million students to date.
Research and Development for Unmet Needs
Meanwhile, Sanofi continues to be one of the pharmaceutical companies conducting the most clinical studies in Turkey. It has now become the hub of clinical research projects in its region and as of 2021, successfully manages 45 clinical study projects in 14 different countries. Furthermore, as of the end of 2021, Sanofi conducts clinical research across 252 centers in 25 cities (Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Aydın, Bursa, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Edirne, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Istanbul, Izmir, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Konya, Kırıkkale, Kütahya, Malatya, Manisa, Mersin, Rize, Samsun, Tekirdağ, Trabzon) across 7 geographical regions of Turkey.
Healthy Planet
According to the report, "climate change," one of Sanofi's global priorities, is also among the risk issues prioritized by Sanofi Turkey at the country level. Sanofi aims to use 100% renewable electrical energy in all production facilities worldwide by 2030. In line with this target, the Lüleburgaz facility switched to 100% renewable electricity use in 2020. As a result, approximately 25,000 MWh of energy per year in the production center began to be supplied from renewable energy sources. In parallel with the project, 100% renewable electricity use was implemented at Sanofi's Tuzla Depot and Sanofi Head Office. As a result of this application, in 2021 it received the "Environmentally Friendly Pharmaceutical Company" award at the Istanbul Economy Summit held with the theme of "Green Economy."
30,000 tree saplings planted in 2021 through the Online for Nature project
Sanofi Turkey, in cooperation with the TEMA Foundation, launched the Online for Nature project to increase the motivation of the field team that began working remotely during the pandemic period, develop environmental awareness throughout the company and provide social benefit. The project, which aimed to plant 10,000 trees in 100 days, was completed in 98 days. However, in order to heal the wounds from the forest fires that developed across the country in the summer of 2021, the scope of the project was expanded and the target was tripled. Within this scope, a total of 30,000 tree saplings were planted to contribute to the country's reforestation.
Inclusive Workplace
Through cooperation with the Association of Women Entrepreneurs (KAGİDER), Sanofi Turkey implements the Future Women Leaders Training Program, which was launched in 2011, to prepare young women who will make a difference in society and their environment for business life in an equipped manner and aims to contribute to women's employment in the country. The "Future Women Leaders" program, which includes basic knowledge and skills for professional life, career development and management perspectives, and job entry skills training, supports young women's participation in the workforce. In 2021, 250 young women selected from across Turkey, recently graduated from university or in their final year of university, successful and from disadvantaged backgrounds, participated in the program. As of now, 1,200 young women have been reached through trainings within the program scope and awarded the "Future Women Leaders" certificate. 92% of the program's graduates have entered the workforce and continue to climb the career ladder.
