Applications for the Şahabettin Bilgisu Environment Awards Open Until 30 April

The "Şahabettin Bilgisu Environmental Awards" programme is being held for the 30th time this year. Applications for the "Environmental Award" and "Sector Awards" are accepted until 30 April 2024, Friday. The awards will be presented at a ceremony held during Environment Week. The effects of climate change on our world are becoming more pronounced with each passing day, and this situation requires rapid and serious transformation. Policies addressing climate change are gaining importance quickly alongside their escalating impacts. The anticipated normalisation of the new world order is planned to be centred on "Green and Digital" priorities. The EU is modernising its economy based on circular economy principles and placing digitalisation and the green economy among its main objectives. Within this framework, the EU's Green Deal, aimed at aligning with the Paris Climate Agreement targets, seeks to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050. For Turkey to keep pace with this change, manage increasing competition and maintain existing markets, it must align with the EU's green and digital transformation policies. In this context, Turkey's ratification of the Paris Climate Agreement and acceptance of the goal of climate neutrality by 2053 is significant. As Turkey implements measures in line with its Green Transformation Action Plan, sectors must rapidly adapt to carbon border adjustment mechanisms. Industrialists are developing new environmental strategies for the protection of natural resources, mitigation of climate change effects and sustainable production. Today, in determining competitiveness, efficient use of resources, avoiding environmental damage in the production process and ensuring sustainability are of great importance. Kocaeli Chamber of Industry has been organising the "Kocaeli Chamber of Industry Şahabettin Bilgisu Environmental Awards" programme since 1995 with the purpose of encouraging and rewarding industrialists who operate with environmental awareness.
