Revolution Receives FDA Approval The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a Letter of No Objection (LNO) for Revolution's proprietary recycling method to produce post-consumer recycled, linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE PCR) made from recycled stretch film for food-contact applications. The clear PCR produced under Revolution's process can be used at recycled content levels up to 100% in the manufacture of food-contact products for all dry and wet, raw and processed foods (including solid and liquid oils, dairy products, beverages, aqueous products and all types of dry solids) for hot/boiling, frozen, chilled and room temperature conditions of use, representing the broadest conditions of use (COU) for LLDPE PCR in the industry. The LNO announcement represents the latest milestone in Revolution's ongoing efforts to bring recycled material innovations to the food packaging sector. The food-grade quality PCR originates from Revolution's proprietary Sustainable Loop™ mechanical recycling method, and previously received a Letter of No Objection in 2021 for white LLDPE PCR processed from agricultural polyethylene using the same circular approach. Both clear and white LLDPE PCR offer a much-needed, viable recycled resin for flexible film food packaging applications such as stand-up pouches and frozen food bags for converters and brand owners. As brands and retailers seek ways to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve ESG targets to meet rising sustainability demands from consumers and regulatory bodies, this breakthrough further opens the door to sustainable plastic solutions that could impact targets set by consortiums such as the U.S. Plastics Pact and the 2025 Roadmap. As founding activators of the U.S. Plastics Pact, Revolution shares the vision of ensuring 100% of plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025, and obtaining LNOs for both clear and white LLDPE PCR resins can be instrumental in helping partners achieve the Pact's goals. Earlier this year, Revolution announced it had established a partnership with Charter Next Generation® (CNG), a leading producer of high-performance specialty films used in flexible packaging and other end-use markets, to facilitate the entry of food-grade LLDPE PCR into its product portfolio. Alongside other industry leaders such as Pregis, Berry Global and SEE (formerly Sealed Air), CNG is currently offering Revolution's PCR resin series in flexible film products, and the market introduction of clear food-grade LLDPE PCR will expand options for new innovations in recycled packaging.   Source
