Polisan Holding Opens Its Second Green Factory
Polisan Holding Opens Second Green Factory
Polisan Holding, which has contributed value to the Turkish economy for 58 years through investments in the chemicals, port operations and paints sectors, has opened its second green factory as part of its sustainability strategy.
The total investment budget for the two factories was announced as EUR 60 million, and Polisan Holding CEO Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu stated: "After paint production, we are proud to now conduct our chemical production in a facility built according to green factory standards. We consider it important that environmentally-friendly production facilities increase in number in industry, and we hope to see more factories of this kind in the future."
Noting that they have continued their environmentally conscious approach in the products they have developed, Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu said: "27 of our products in the concrete, cement and underground chemicals categories hold Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) certificates. In fact, at the 'Green Buildings and Cities Summit', SÜRATAM/EPD Turkey recognised us with an award for our contributions as a material manufacturer to the sustainability of green buildings.
Our aim is to expand the quality of our services in this area." Hacıkamiloğlu also noted that they are one of the strong players in the decorative paints market and stated that 90 percent of the paints in their product portfolio have high environmental performance.
Polisan Holding, one of Turkey's established group companies, constructed its new chemicals factory in accordance with green building criteria following its paints factory. Polisan Kansai Boya, Turkey's first LEED Gold certified green paints factory, was established with an investment budget of EUR 55 million, while the new chemicals factory, which came on stream in November, cost EUR 5 million. Another common feature of the two factories designed in accordance with the green factory concept is their Industry 4.0-based operation.
Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu, CEO of Polisan Holding, providing information about the green factory investments, said: "Both of our factories were designed in alignment with the twin transformation that will shape the world of the future. This Europe-centred new economic system has digital transformation on one side and green transformation on the other. As a holding, we have set targets in both green transformation and digital transformation that we aim to achieve by 2025. Green factory investments were among these targets and we are proud to have successfully realised this."
The Impact of Green Buildings on Energy Savings and Greenhouse Gas Reduction
Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu, noting that 40 percent of global energy-based greenhouse gas emissions originate from buildings, said that Polisan Kimya's new production building achieves energy savings of up to 26 percent compared to the baseline facility. Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu continued: "In green buildings, the selection of low-impact materials and the establishment of appropriate environmental conditions not only provide healthy and comfortable indoor environments but have also increased the productivity of our employees. These buildings, which use materials sourced responsibly and locally with high recycled content and high energy efficiency, offer important opportunities in the transition from a linear to a circular economy."They Received a Plaque for Supporting Green Buildings with Materials They Produce
Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu, noting that as a holding they have created production facilities that support the environment and developed their products with the same care, stated: "27 of our cement, concrete and underground chemicals products hold Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) certificates that are valid worldwide. Our certificates are registered by the International EPD System and EPD Turkey and were published recently. At the 'Green Buildings and Cities' summit held by ÇEDBİK in November, SÜRATAM/EPD Turkey presented a plaque to Polisan Yapıkim for its contributions as a material manufacturer to the sustainability of green buildings. These products with Type 3 environmental impact EPDs account for 30 percent of our total revenue in the building chemicals sector and 26 percent of our total sales. As awareness increases in this area, we believe that the use of environmentally supportive products in buildings will increase." Hacıkamiloğlu also noted that they are one of the strong players in the decorative paints market and added that paints with high environmental performance account for 90 percent of their product portfolio.Advertisement
