Plastics Sector Shaping the Future

  Assessing the 2021 Turkey's 500 Leading Industrial Enterprises report published by İSO Istanbul Chamber of Industry, PLASFED Plastics Manufacturers Federation Chair Ömer Karadeniz stated: "Looking back over the past 2.5 years, despite the pandemic and the challenges it created, the plastics sector continues to strengthen its position in the İSO 500. This is a matter of pride not only for our sector but for our country as well."

The plastics sector's contribution to other industries is significant

Emphasizing that the plastics enterprises listed in the report have strengthened their position and reached a visibly important place, PLASFED Chair Ömer Karadeniz stated, "When we look at sectors such as automotive and white goods, which hold an important position today, the contribution and impact of our plastics sector are substantial. Although the pandemic affected industry in our country, through continuous work and production, our sector has made serious contributions not only to itself but also to other sectors and our country's industry. Additionally, through our contributions to the health and food sectors during the pandemic period, beyond automotive and white goods, there have been positive reflections in terms of human health."

Plastics sector shaping the future

Highlighting that plastics can be used in many different fields due to their flexibility and ease of processing, Ömer Karadeniz said, "Today, plastics continue to rapidly replace traditional materials. When we talk about the importance of circular economy today, many types of plastics can be easily recycled when compared with alternative materials. In the coming years, the plastics sector will be one of the industries that will contribute most to the recycling sector and shape the future. As long as rapid growth continues. As long as production continues. For production to continue, our industry must keep working, it must not stop. The more we produce, the stronger we become. Industrial strength means adding strength to our country's power."

More plastics enterprises will be included in the İSO 500

Expressing his belief that Turkey's plastics sector will grow above average compared to other manufacturing industries despite all its structural problems and shortcomings, Ömer Karadeniz said, "We believe that the plastics industry, which is one of the most strategic sectors as it provides intermediate inputs to more than 30 sectors including automotive, white goods, packaging, agriculture, electrical electronics and construction, will continue to grow above average in the coming period and more plastics enterprises will be included in the İSO 500. Developing technology is rapidly opening the way for innovative materials such as plastics and composites. Reducing our carbon footprint is being mentioned as the most important strategy in combating climate change, one of humanity's greatest challenges in recent years. The European Green Deal even adopts this strategy as a priority on the path to becoming the first climate-neutral continent. Today, to reduce carbon emissions, both vehicle production and packaging require lighter materials. Due to this requirement, the use and growth of plastics will continue everywhere. Accordingly, our plastics enterprises will produce more and contribute more, and they will occupy more places in the İSO 500. Our targets and efforts are in this direction. The contributions made by the plastics sector to industry during the pandemic period are very important.
