Thus, the contribution to both the economy and sustainable environment is steadily increasing. With the influence of changing technology and awareness levels, plastic waste recycling is one of the subtopics of the recycling issue, which is expanding its scope.
The fact that plastics persist in nature for long periods, making them one of the serious environmental pollution hazards, and the steadily increasing global plastic consumption necessitate thinking about the recycling of these materials and, moreover, seeking solutions.
Of course, it is hardly possible to eliminate plastic from our lives entirely. However, the more widespread we make the practice of recycling and reusing it, the better it will be for the future. This is because plastic does not decompose, rust, dissolve or deteriorate when thrown away.
Beyond polluting water and soil, it accumulates in nature for years, harming aquatic life and even causing their deaths. For this reason, these accumulated plastics in nature must be disposed of.
Plastic and similar waste materials can be converted into new raw materials or products through various physical and chemical processes. The introduction of this waste into the production process as a secondary raw material after undergoing certain processes is defined as plastic recycling.
This material, which is present in every area of our lives and greatly facilitates living, must undergo certain processes to be recyclable. These processes are, in order: cutting and crushing plastic, washing and drying plastic, and transferring plastic to the feed tank.
The widespread adoption and proper management of recycling has proven through research to contribute to the national economy. The areas to which recycling contributes include energy savings and economic contribution, which can be counted as investment for the future. Some products obtained from plastic recycling are as follows:
Greenhouse sheeting, plastic bags in the automotive sector, Marley, wastewater pipe, fibre and filling material, automotive spare parts manufacturing, detergent bottles, waste bins and similar products, rainwater and wastewater pipes, various plastic filling materials, various plastic toys and stationery materials.
Considering all of this, while not overlooking plastic's facilitative contribution to every area of life, raising awareness regarding waste recycling and reuse and contributing to sustainability requires both societal and individual efforts that are important for our world.
