Pepsi Launches 100% Recycled PET Bottle
Pepsi Launches 100% Recycled PET Bottle
Pepsi's 1-litre bottles made from 100% recycled PET packaging now on shelves represent a first in Turkey's beverage sector. As of 2025, PepsiCo's beverage brands in its Turkey organization—including Pepsi, Yedigün and Fruko—will source all PET packaging from 100% recycled plastic.
PepsiCo, a global leader in sustainability, has achieved a first in the beverage sector with its Pepsi brand. Pepsi, the first brand to use PET bottles invented in the 1970s, now produces 100% of its 1-litre PET bottles from recycled plastic. Operating in 22 global markets with products in 100% recycled plastic (rPET) packaging, PepsiCo ranks among the leading firms in recycled PET usage.
PepsiCo uses recycled PET content of nearly 20% in many of its Turkish products. Starting in early 2021, it introduced PET bottles with 50% r-PET content, and achieved a first in the beverage sector by producing 1-litre PET bottles for carbonated beverages from 100% recycled plastic.
Aslı Önder, Marketing Director for Beverage Category at PepsiCo Turkey, noted that Pepsi, Yedigün and Fruko have transitioned to 100% recycled design for 1-litre PET bottles to emphasize the importance of recycled plastic use and raise awareness on the issue. "We aim to raise the bar further in the coming period. Our target is to source all PET packaging in the beverage category across our Turkey organization from recycled plastic by 2025," she said.
Emphasizing that PepsiCo works to build a world where packaging is not waste, Aslı Önder continued: "We set targets to reduce virgin plastic use across all our packaging. Our objective is 'Zero Waste'—meaning all package materials we use are part of the circular economy. All six of our facilities in Turkey operate as zero-waste facilities. All our factories were certified with the Zero Waste Certificate from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in 2021. We manage the circular economy model extending from farm to factory, and our vision spans 360 degrees from recycled materials to zero-waste principles."
PepsiCo currently sources 25% of its beverage category PET packaging from recycled plastic in Turkey, with this rate reaching 50% in certain product groups. Continuing efforts to raise this target further, PepsiCo supports the mandatory deposit return system to be implemented this year and views this practice as an important step toward the circular economy.
