OPET, within the scope of its Women's Power Project focused on gender equality, is planting 30,000 saplings in cooperation with the Aegean Forest Foundation to leave a sustainable and lasting legacy on behalf of all its employees, particularly the 'Women's Power' staff at its service stations. The first saplings of OPET Women's Power Forests, which will be planted with 10,000 saplings each in Izmir-Kınık, Adana-Sarıçam and Elazığ-Harput locations, were planted at a planting ceremony held in Kınık. OPET is bringing a different and sustainable dimension to the Women's Power Project by establishing 'Women's Power Forests' on behalf of all its employees this year.

OPET Women's Power Forests to green 30,000 saplings

While the first saplings donated by OPET on behalf of all its employees, particularly women, were being planted, the ceremony was attended by OPET Board Member Filiz Öztürk, Aegean Forest Foundation General Manager Perihan Öztürk, and officials from OPET and the Aegean Forest Foundation. OPET Board Member Filiz Öztürk said in her speech at the ceremony: "As OPET, we conduct detailed research not only through our products and services but also through our corporate social responsibility approach to understand what our society needs, and we develop projects accordingly. We launched our 'Women's Power' project with the aim of demonstrating that women can successfully exist in every field of working life within the framework of equal opportunity principles. Taking into account the unfortunate forest fires that occurred last year, we have brought a new dimension to our project and decided to establish forests on behalf of all our employees, particularly women. Every year on 8 March, International Women's Day, we gave various gifts to the women's power at our service stations to make them feel that we are by their side. This year, by planting saplings dedicated to each of our employees' names, we are making a meaningful gift that aligns with our corporate social responsibility vision. Through OPET Women's Power Forests, we are investing in our future in line with our responsibility to society and the environment. We will plant a total of 30,000 saplings in three different regions within the scope of the project. We will document our afforestation efforts, which we are taking the first steps on this year, with personalized digital certificates," she said.

APPROXIMATELY 12,330 TONS OF CO2 EQUIVALENT CARBON TO BE ABSORBED

Aegean Forest Foundation General Manager Perihan Öztürk said: "Over 26 years, we have enabled nearly 12 million saplings to grow into trees and become part of forests across 75,000 decares of land. We continue to create carbon sink areas with afforestation projects that provide solutions to climate change. The 30,000 saplings donated by OPET's employees will be located in a total area of 180 decares. This is equivalent to approximately 25 football fields in size. The planted saplings will absorb approximately 12,330 tons of CO2 equivalent carbon from the atmosphere thanks to their carbon storage capacity. We believe that women, who have the largest share in shaping future generations, need to have greater presence in the workplace so they can exist more strongly in life. With OPET Women's Power Forests, OPET gave a gift to Mother Nature on International Women Workers' Day through the saplings it donated on behalf of all its employees, particularly women employees. We thank OPET for this meaningful project and hope for the continuation of their support for forest sustainability." Within the scope of the donation made by OPET, the saplings planted in Adana Sarıçam and Elazığ Harput, in addition to Izmir-Kınık, will grow into OPET Women's Power Forests comprising 30,000 trees. Red Pine and Cypress saplings were predominantly planted in the three different locations. The Aegean Forest Foundation will monitor the saplings for 5 years until they establish biological independence, failed saplings will be replaced, and our country will gain a new forest.
