Leading Companies Meet on Sustainability ÇEVKO, which serves as the founder of Turkey's sustainable recycling system, is addressing climate change comprehensively through its 30th Anniversary Talks project in cooperation with the Economics Journalists Association (EGD). The talks prepared by ÇEVKO's Climate Change and Sustainability Working Group in cooperation with the EGD Global Warming Congress Committee concluded with a meeting titled "Climate Change and Sustainability Works of Leading Industrial Enterprises in Turkey." In the online talk moderated by EGD President Celal Toprak and attended by ÇEVKO General Secretary Mete İmer, the initiatives of bp Türkiye, CarrefourSA, Coca-Cola İçecek, L'Oréal, Mey Diageo, PepsiCo Türkiye and Uludağ İçecek were presented. The topic of this online talk series, prepared by ÇEVKO's Climate Change and Sustainability Working Group in cooperation with the EGD Global Warming Congress Committee, was "Climate Change and Sustainability Works of Leading Industrial Enterprises in Turkey." ÇEVKO, which is among organizations providing intellectual leadership on Climate Change and Circular Economy, is carrying out its "30th Anniversary Talks" project in cooperation with the Economics Journalists Association (EGD). The talk, moderated by EGD President Celal Toprak, was attended by ÇEVKO General Secretary Mete İmer, bp Türkiye Health, Safety, Environment and Security Manager Emir Özdemir, CarrefourSA HSE, Environment, Quality Assurance and Sustainability Group Manager Tayfun Akusta, Coca-Cola İçecek Group Sustainability and Communications Leader Burçun İmir, L'Oréal Corporate Communications and Engagement Director İrem Karaoda Tanrıkulu, Mey Diageo Health Safety Environment Manager Çinel İşlek Güncü, PepsiCo Türkiye External Affairs and Sustainability Manager Hatice Örs Bingöl and Uludağ İçecek Quality Assurance and R&D Center Manager Tuğba Şimşek. In the opening of the online meeting, EGD President Celal Toprak emphasized the importance of the leadership role assumed by environmentally conscious industrial enterprises in combating the climate crisis, and gave the floor to ÇEVKO General Secretary Mete İmer. Mete İmer began his remarks by addressing the importance of the Paris Climate Agreement. "The Paris Climate Agreement has three fundamental objectives. The first of these is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit the increase in global average temperature to no more than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, or even to 1.5°C; the second is to increase the capacity of parties to adapt to the adverse effects of climate change; the third is to provide consistent financial flows to support mitigation and adaptation efforts.

States Unite Around Goal of Carbon Neutrality by 2050

For the Paris Climate Agreement to be effective, there are issues to be resolved at the state level and legal framework arrangements that need to be made. On the other hand, the Paris Agreement invites civil society, cities and other stakeholders to be supportive and active in implementing the Agreement. Industrial enterprises are assuming a very valuable leadership role in this regard. While states have united around the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, industrial enterprises are making commitments to achieve this goal in their areas of operation before that date. Taking the lead in society, directing individuals and states toward these efforts truly requires great responsibility and dedication. That is why the responsibility of industry is very significant." he said.
