Milliken & Company Receives Net-Zero Approval UN-backed SBTi validates the company's science-based net-zero target set for 2050. Milliken & Company, a global manufacturer, announced that its science-based net-zero targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). SBTi is a community of international organizations committed to helping companies set emission reduction targets in line with the Paris Agreement and climate science. Milliken & Company President and CEO Halsey Cook stated, "Sustainability is a core value at Milliken. Climate change is putting pressure on communities, companies and our planet. Now is the time to take meaningful action." According to SBTi's calculations, companies committed to reducing emissions based on climate science currently represent a USD 38 trillion segment of the global economy, constituting one-third of it. Milliken became one of the first 50 companies worldwide to achieve science-based net-zero targets and joined a group of more than 1,300 companies that have made net-zero commitments based on the 2021 SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard. Milliken achieved the distinction of being the first company approved by SBTi in South Carolina, where its global headquarters is located. Kasel Knight, General Counsel and Head of Sustainability at Milliken, commented, "Not all net-zero commitments are equal. For this reason, Milliken commits to achieving true net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050, using 2018 as a baseline. By working with SBTi, our net-zero commitment, along with our approved short-term and long-term targets, has been fully vetted by the highest scientific authorities available globally."
