Merck aims to reduce plastic waste by 180 tonnes annually with the new box design and will provide 40-55% space savings in warehouses. Through the new packaging, which will enable more of the cold-chain transported and stored product to be stored in a more confined area, Merck commits to reducing its annual carbon footprint by 33%.

It plans to reduce indirect greenhouse gas emissions from the supply chain by 1,500 metric kilotons of CO2. By 2040, Merck aims to neutralize climate impacts across all stages of the supply chain while reducing resource consumption.
