Kimpur Receives Award at Istanbul Carbon Summit
The 8th Istanbul Carbon Summit, held this year under the main support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and Istanbul Technical University (ITU) by the Association for Sustainable Production and Consumption (SÜT-D) under the title 'Climate-Resilient Industry and Strong Turkey', was organised with the aims of understanding the role of carbon management in sustainable production, learning what needs to be done for climate-resilient industry, and understanding the importance of energy and waste sectors for a climate-resilient Turkey.
Kimpur, Turkey's 100 percent domestically-produced polyurethane systems manufacturer, earned the Low Carbon Champion Award with its project titled "Our Energy is Solar, Our Future is Sustainable".
Kimpur, standing out as an organisation that prioritises sustainability efforts and the mission of leaving a liveable world for future generations, took its place at the VIII. Istanbul Carbon Summit and received considerable interest from visitors as the only firm from the polyurethane sector participating in the summit. At the summit, topics such as reducing carbon emissions and supporting the transition to sustainable energy sources were discussed. Kimpur CEO Cavidan Karaca delivered a presentation at the Carbon Management and Industry session, discussing the company's sustainability efforts.
'Creating value for a sustainable future'
Kimpur CEO Cavidan Karaca, speaking at the session, pointed out that the Istanbul Carbon Summit is a platform that brings together experts on sustainability, carbon energy and environmental matters, enabling important discussions about the future. Karaca, stating that they believe sustainable growth is not possible without creating value in environmental and social terms, said: "This year we are celebrating our 40 years of experience. Our sustainability efforts aim to minimise our environmental impact and encompass projects such as zero waste, emissions management, energy efficiency, water conservation and recycling. We also continue our work with social responsibility projects that benefit society and the environment. Through our technology and R&D investments, we maintain our leading position in the sector, and with our sustainability efforts, we pioneer our sector. We approach all our projects at our R&D centre in line with sustainability principles and develop solutions that will contribute to nature and the circular economy in our product lifecycle. In 2020 we achieved 11.58 percent success in energy savings and 7.06 percent in 2021. In 2022, our production volume increased by 23 percent compared to the previous year, but our carbon emissions increased by only 5.1 percent. This shows that we prevented 14 percent of carbon emissions compared to the previous year. With our solar energy investment in our Düzce facility, which will commence operations shortly, we aim to meet 55 percent of our electricity consumption from renewable energy in the future and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 679 tonnes. We will continue our efforts for a more sustainable and liveable world with determination."Environmentally-Conscious Kimpur Receives Sustainability Award
Kimpur's environmentally-conscious approach and sustainability efforts were crowned with the Low Carbon Champion Award. Operating with the vision of leaving a liveable world for future generations, Kimpur was deemed worthy of the Low Carbon Champion Award at the awards ceremony held at the VIII. Istanbul Carbon Summit with its project called 'Our Energy is Solar, Our Future is Sustainable', which aims to obtain approximately 20 percent of the energy needed for its operations from clean energy through its solar power plant investment at its Gebze facility and to reduce carbon emissions by 200-250 tonnes per year.Advertisement
