Keskinoğlu Makes Major Investment in Sustainable Production, Prioritizing Solar Power and Water Management

Keskinoğlu, one of Türkiye's first integrated production companies, is strengthening its environment-focused production approach through investments made in line with its sustainable growth targets. The company, which joined the Matlı Şirketler Grubu in 2023, is contributing to the conservation of natural resources by increasing its investments in energy and water management in pursuit of its "Zero Waste" target.
Keskinoğlu, one of Turkey's first integrated manufacturing companies, is strengthening its environmentally-focused production approach through investments aligned with sustainable growth targets. The company, which joined the Matlı Companies Group in 2023, is increasing its investments in energy and water management in line with its "Zero Waste" goal, thereby contributing to the protection of natural resources.
Keskinoğlu is focusing on solar power plants (SPP) and water efficiency projects by placing sustainability at the centre of its production processes. Through the SPP investments implemented in this scope, approximately 20% of the electricity used in production is supplied from renewable energy sources. These investments contribute significantly to optimizing energy costs as well as reducing carbon footprint.
In addition to energy investments, the company is taking important steps in water management. Through wastewater treatment systems and projects aimed at reducing water consumption, the goal is to minimize environmental impacts in production. A water management department established in this context is conducting studies on wastewater recovery and reuse.
Önder Matlı, Vice Chairman of the Board of Matlı Companies Group and General Manager of Keskinoğlu, drew attention to the importance of environmentally-conscious production in his assessment of the matter.
"Today's consumers demand environmentally-conscious production processes," said Matlı, using the following statements:
"As Keskinoğlu, alongside our investments aimed at increased production, we place great importance on investments for the protection of natural resources. Leading our investments for the protection of natural resources is SPP. With the investments we have implemented at Keskinoğlu, we will increase our current installed capacity of 2.5 MegaWatt to 15 MegaWatt through new investments we will make in the first half of 2026. This system will cover our entire cutting-floor campus and will meet 20% of our total electricity consumption.
"Because we are a food industry, we place great importance on hygiene conditions. For this reason, washing and disinfection operations are the production stages that consume the most water. Since we are in the category of countries experiencing water stress, our priority goal is to ensure the reuse of the water we treat and to reduce our water consumption 30-fold, out of respect for the right to life of future generations and all living things in nature. In this direction, we treat 4,200 cubic metres of wastewater daily with high efficiency in our treatment facilities, producing without harming the recipient environment ecology, groundwater and soil.
"We also established a water management department within our organization to use wastewater generated in our production processes, and we plan and implement projects aimed at wastewater management. First, we will evaluate wastewater through filtration and convert it into usable water for use in our own processes, then feed it back into the system. We have currently activated investments to reduce consumption by 20%. We will reach the 50% target in the near future.
"Another environmentally-focused investment we have implemented as Keskinoğlu is the latest technology product developed to protect water resources worldwide, reverse osmosis application with special filters. With this method, we have managed to reduce our water use by 15% compared to 2024. Our goal is to reduce our water usage rate by 30% compared to the previous year while increasing our production volumes by 2027.
Önder Matlı continued his words on the sustainability approach as follows:
"As Keskinoğlu, in line with sustainability principles and with our production approach that considers future generations, we adopt and implement an approach to waste management that is sensitive to the environment and public health and compliant with laws. In this scope, we invest in technologies that will reduce environmental impacts in our production processes and put circular economy principles into practice. We regularly measure and analyse the environmental impacts of our production processes in accordance with applicable environmental regulations. Furthermore, systematic controls through internal inspections and official inspections are provided by both our organization and the ministry. These measurement activities enable us to monitor our environmental performance and achieve our continuous improvement targets.
"Our treatment facilities operate at above 95% efficiency. Our efforts, which we conduct as integrated into the 'Zero Waste' project of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, have been certified with 'Zero Waste Certificates'. These certificates demonstrate not only the sufficiency of the applications but also our institutional commitment to sustainability."
Keskinoğlu, through investments implemented in line with its environmentally-friendly production approach, aims both to lead sustainable transformation in the sector and to leave a more liveable environment for future generations.
