New Technology in Paper Pallet Wrapping
Mondi is collaborating with EW Technology to develop a new machine for paper pallet wrapping.
Mondi, a leading company in packaging and paper, has partnered with EW Technology, an Austrian machine engineering firm, to create a new machine for paper pallet wrapping that is more efficient and sustainable for small and medium-sized production lines.
The two companies worked together to design an innovative machine that fills a gap Mondi identified in the pallet wrapping market. The machine offers two settings: fully automatic for wrapping up to 60 pallets per hour, or semi-automatic for wrapping 10-15 pallets per hour.
The machine accepts a full roll of Mondi's Advantage StretchWrap paper, enabling customers to use it instead of multi-layer plastic, currently the industry standard for pallet wrapping. Advantage StretchWrap is 100 percent pure paper made from renewable materials and fully recyclable in existing paper waste streams in Europe.

It contains no plastic or coating, yet still delivers excellent strength and tear absorption. Mondi commissioned an independent lifecycle assessment (LCA) comparing its innovative paper pallet packaging to conventional plastic stretch film, demonstrating superior performance across various impact categories, particularly climate change, with a 62 percent lower carbon footprint compared to virgin plastic stretch film.
The technology offers additional benefits from a user perspective. A full Advantage StretchWrap roll can be applied to the new machine without rewinding. Larger sizes of the Advantage StretchWrap roll mean a replacement roll is needed only every 400-600 pallets compared to 40-80 pallets for plastic packaging, offering a more efficient solution.
Philipp Ertl, Co-Founder of EW Technology, stated: "Sustainable projects are close to our hearts and as a young team we are committed to making a positive contribution to the environment. By adopting a collaborative approach to partnership with Mondi, we were able to learn exactly what was needed and worked together to deliver a unique new offering in paper wrapping technology for palletized products that will benefit companies across many industries."
Bartosz Babicz, Product Manager for Mondi Advantage StretchWrap, added: "We work with brands across various industries and realized that companies wanting more sustainable and smaller footprint solutions needed a specialized machine for paper pallet wrapping. This machine will enable customers to successfully and safely wrap their products in paper for shipping, work toward a more circular system, and make a positive contribution to the environment."
