Climate Tunnel Awaits Visitors The Climate Assembly, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change at the Selçuklu Congress Centre, continues with various panels, meetings and sessions. The Climate Tunnel, established at the Congress Centre within the scope of the Assembly, presents the negative effects of climate change to visitors in striking three-dimensional form. Through sound and changing visuals, the tunnel appeals to human emotion and invites people, as part of nature, to reflect on their responsibilities. Assembly participants who have examined and experienced the Climate Tunnel say it should exist everywhere and that it draws attention to the climate crisis.

Civil Engineer Recep Karagözler Shared His Thoughts

Civil engineer Recep Karagözler, attending the Climate Assembly as an invited guest, described how the Climate Assembly was organized very well and attracted broad participation, saying, "I am attending a session continuously and truly excellent points are being discussed there. I am recently retired. These fires, I know forests very well. A fire starts here, the damage it causes—animals, greenery, nature, and the subsequent vegetation—it has been thought through beautifully. I even recorded a video on my phone. I really pass through here every time, I skip the session hall, and I thank those who put in the effort. Fires occur because of our carelessness or intentional acts. Here with intent there are two types—one group of enemies of the country and another who want to gain land." he said.

Each Individual Must Do Their Part

Ayet Akkuzu, a student at Selçuk University, toured the Climate Tunnel within the scope of the Climate Assembly which she visited and offered assessments. Noting that the Assembly is an awareness-raising program, Akkuzu thanked those involved and said, "I was very pleased. I think it was very productive. For my part, it was wonderful. It gives a real feeling—I even tried to leave halfway through the tunnel. It is truly frightening. God forbid it, it is really a difficult situation. I hope the day never comes when we experience these conditions, and that we only know them through the tunnel, as I hope. I wish for people to become aware and to see, at least through this simulation, how very frightening this is. If everyone does their part, there will be no need for major investments. If everyone does what they can, I believe there will be a better world and better climate. I wish that everyone will show all the effort they can from here." she said. The Climate Assembly will continue with numerous sessions, panels and meetings until Friday, 25 February.
