Climate Council to Be Held to Combat Climate Change

Climate Council to Address Climate Change The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change will organize a comprehensive "Climate Council" in Konya between 21-25 February to address climate change mitigation. The Climate Council, which will bring together over 600 participants from public institutions, local administrations, universities, the business sector, international organizations, the private sector and civil society organizations, will produce decisions that will inform legislative work on climate change. The Council is expected to address in detail greenhouse gas reduction in energy, industry and transport; greenhouse gas reduction in agriculture, waste, buildings and LULUCF; green finance and carbon pricing; climate change adaptation; local administrations; migration; just transition and other social policies; and science and technology.

"Climate Ambassadors" to Present Youth Manifesto

As part of the Council, "Climate Ambassadors" representing all universities will present a Youth Manifesto comprising 13 points prepared through a month of work. During the Council, panels will be held on the Paris Agreement and International Process in the Climate Regime, Green Policy, International Finance, Science and Technology, What is Changing in Climate, Strengthening Local Climate Action, the Green Deal and Industrial Transformation. The Council will be concluded with commission meetings held in 7 separate rooms and "Round Table Meetings" to be conducted by deputy ministers. The concluding statement to be released after the Council is expected to determine Turkey's short, medium and long-term strategic targets in line with its 2053 net zero emissions and green development goals, contribute to climate legislation to be developed, and create a roadmap containing core policies and priority actions in the context of greenhouse gas emission reduction and climate change adaptation. The Council will begin on Monday, 21 February at 10:00 with a Youth session, with the Youth Manifesto presentation taking place at 11:00, followed by the opening address by Minister Murat Kurum. The concluding statement will be announced to the public by Minister Kurum on Friday, 25 February.
