Climate Change and Clean Energy Installations
It has been reported that in order to successfully implement energy transition and limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees, renewable energy installations at a level of 1,000 gigawatts annually must be carried out globally until 2030.
According to the World Energy Transformation Outlook 2023 Report prepared by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), renewable energy installations can be accelerated through the provision of physical infrastructure, as well as the need for policies, regulations and workforce.
While electrification and efficiency applications are identified as key players in the investments to be made to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees, renewable energy, clean hydrogen and sustainable biomass applications need to be extended across all sectors.
According to the report, despite a 300 gigawatt increase in renewable energy capacity last year, this amount is not considered sufficient to achieve climate targets.
In order to successfully implement energy transition and limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees, renewable energy installations at a level of 1,000 gigawatts annually must be carried out globally until 2030.
In his assessment of the report, IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera stated that targeted capacity increases for the implementation of the Paris Agreement need to be addressed more scientifically and approaches that place renewable energy as a solution at the center need to be adopted.
La Camera expressed that in addition to capacity increases, ensuring energy security, reducing energy costs and incorporating renewable energy at industrial scale into the system are important in achieving the stated target.
