Climate Change and Its Adverse Effects on Health Speaking at a conference at Bartın University, Prof. Dr. Raika Durusoy addressed the global impacts of climate change, noting that adverse effects on human health are increasing each passing day.

Climate Change and Health Conference

An online conference on "Climate Change and Health" was held by Bartın University Faculty of Health Sciences. The event, organized in line with the World Health Organization's (WHO) 2022 World Health Day theme "Our Planet, Our Health," was attended by academics, health professionals and students from various cities across Turkey.  

Opening Address Delivered by Elif Karahan

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Karahan, Vice Dean of Bartın University Faculty of Health Sciences, who delivered the conference opening address, stated that climate change and the problems it brings are among the most important issues facing our planet today.

Raika Durusoy Delivers Conference Presentation

Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Raika Durusoy, Faculty Member at the Department of Public Health, Division of Internal Medical Sciences, Ege University Faculty of Medicine, delivered a presentation titled "Climate Change and Health." Prof. Dr. Durusoy began her presentation with an assessment of factors causing climate change such as global warming, fossil fuels used for various purposes in daily life, greenhouse gas effect, and deforestation. Addressing the effects of climate change on human health, Durusoy stated: "In our country and worldwide, as a result of the climate crisis, we are facing decreased physical activity, increased respiratory and non-communicable diseases, and mood disorders. Adverse effects on human health and environmental dimensions including drought and reduction in arable land are producing significant consequences." Durusoy provided information from the Climate Change and Health Report published by the WHO in 2021 and about emergency action plans for all countries, discussing what can be done to prevent climate change. Following a question-and-answer session, the conference concluded with various solution proposals presented on the topic of climate change and health.
