Article Competition: Law and Climate Change Perspective The article competition, organized in collaboration between Kadir Has University Climate Change and Law Laboratory (CCLLAB) and WWF-Turkey (World Wildlife Fund Turkey), aims to conduct comparative examinations taking into account legal developments in Europe within the scope of the European Green Deal and the European Climate Law, and to present legal regulations and solution proposals that will find practical application specifically in Turkey. Forests, among the world's most important ecosystems, serve as a fundamental source of life and hold particular significance in many areas, especially climate change, sustainability, and biodiversity protection. Since 1990, approximately 129 million hectares of forest area have been lost and continue to be lost, particularly due to hazards stemming from human activities. Deforestation leads to the destruction of living habitats and the reduction of biodiversity. This situation has also taken on a different dimension at the legal level, particularly over the last quarter-century, through the Kyoto Protocol, the Paris Agreement, the European Green Deal, and the European Climate Law. Forests are natural areas with high carbon sequestration capacity. Faced with the reality of climate change, while deforestation poses a major threat, the protection and expansion of forest areas should be viewed as an opportunity. The use of this opportunity through correct practices and appropriate tools is imperative. Law is one of the most powerful of these tools. The subject of this article competition is fundamentally the protection and development of forests from the perspectives of law and climate change. In this context, articles submitted are expected to conduct comparative examinations taking into account legal developments in Europe within the scope of the European Green Deal and the European Climate Law, and to present legal regulations and solution proposals that will find practical application specifically in Turkey. To this end, articles addressing the prevention of deforestation in the context of climate change efforts and written in relation to forest legislation, criminal law, administrative law, property law and law of obligations, as well as other areas of law, are expected to participate in the competition.
