GETAM Cooperation Protocol Signed A protocol established between Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi and ÇEVKO Vakfı for the "Recovery Testing and Research Centre (GETAM)", developed by Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi in partnership with ÇEVKO Vakfı, was signed at a ceremony. The centre, a first of its kind in Turkey in its field, was established with contributions from Coca-Cola İçecek and Unilever and support from the Istanbul Development Agency's Innovative Istanbul Financial Support Programme. GETAM (Recovery Testing and Research Centre), established on the basis of international and national standards and accreditation rules, represents a first in its field in Turkey. The centre will be capable of conducting tests in numerous areas, from the recyclability of packaging to its compostability, from the proportion of recycled material it contains to its biodegradability. GETAM, which adds a new dimension to sustainability-focused public-academic-industry partnerships, was realised with contributions from Coca-Cola İçecek and Unilever and support from the Istanbul Development Agency's Innovative Istanbul Financial Support Programme. The cooperation protocol for GETAM was signed at a ceremony held at the centre located at Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi (YTÜ) Davutpaşa Campus by YTÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Yılmaz and YTÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bestami Özkaya, ÇEVKO Vakfı Board Chair Okyar Yayalar and ÇEVKO Vakfı Secretary General Mete İmer. The signing ceremony was held with the participation of YTÜ teaching staff and ÇEVKO Vakfı officials. YTÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Yılmaz stated, "Collaborating with the private sector, working together and producing solutions to the private sector's problems are among the areas in which Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi excels. Today we are also collaborating with sector leaders on a very important centre. I wish that the Recovery Testing and Research Centre GETAM, realised in cooperation between ÇEVKO Vakfı and Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi, will be beneficial for both the business world and the scientific world. The centre's primary objective is to create an environmentally friendly society through waste reduction and more efficient resource use. Thanks to the technologies developed at the centre, waste recycling becomes more efficient and economical. Additionally, the amount of waste is reduced through the use of by-products generated in the recycling process. Work conducted at the centre encompasses topics such as zero waste, circular economy, recycling and sustainable development. Turkey's first Recovery Testing and Research Centre GETAM plays a pioneering role in recycling and waste management, contributing to sustainable development targets." YTÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bestami Özkaya said the following regarding the matter: "The Recovery Testing and Research Centre GETAM is taking a pioneering role in plastic waste recycling in Turkey. The centre is taking important steps for a sustainable future by working with sectors on waste management and recycling issues. In this way, awareness of waste management and recycling issues is increasing in Turkey and an important foundation is being created for a sustainable future. GETAM works towards reducing waste and more sustainable use of resources in line with circular economy principles. The centre will increase awareness of waste management and recycling issues in Turkey." ÇEVKO Vakfı Board Chair Okyar Yayalar spoke as follows: "This Centre, which is technology and knowledge intensive, will serve interdisciplinary activities and is based on the development of national knowledge accumulation. Beyond serving many institutions and organisations in our country, it will also have a say in global markets given that all relevant international requirements will be met. We are proud and excited to collaborate with Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi, one of our country's most respected educational and research and development institutions, on such a valuable project.
