Eczacıbaşı Publishes 'Environmental Awareness' Survey
Eczacıbaşı Profesyonel's 'Understanding Environmental Awareness' research in the out-of-home consumption channel revealed how companies in the sector view environmental responsibility. According to the research findings, environmental awareness among hotels, restaurants and private institutions comes to the agenda only in line with laws, sanctions and obligations. Companies' actions on environmental sensitivity remained limited to using recycling bins, using recyclable products and collecting waste batteries.
Eczacıbaşı Profesyonel announced the results of its 'Understanding Environmental Awareness' research conducted in 2019 with purchasing managers from companies serving the out-of-home consumption sector. The research, carried out in collaboration with Sia Insight, contains striking findings regarding the sector's environmental responsibility. Eczacıbaşı Profesyonel was awarded the Gold Award at the Owl Awards presented by the Turkey Researchers Association for achieving a first in the sector with this research and offering a different perspective.
Environment comes to the agenda only through obligations and pressures
According to the results of the Understanding Environmental Awareness research, environmental sensitivity in hotels, restaurants and private institutions in the sector comes to the agenda only in line with obligations such as laws and sanctions. While the environment does not rank among the priority criteria in companies' purchasing processes, each firm believes it has taken steps on environmental responsibility. The actions companies take on this matter are limited to recycling. 76 percent of the establishments participating in the research answered 'Having recycling bins' to the question 'What actions are you taking to show environmental sensitivity?' While 48 percent stated they are environmentally conscious by using recyclable products, 44 and 42 percent respectively stated they collect waste oil and batteries.Sensitivity does not go beyond sensor-equipped taps
According to the research findings, while hotels were observed to take slightly more action on environmental sensitivity compared to other companies, restaurants and private institutions showed less concern on this matter. 63 percent of hotels stated they took cost-intensive actions such as convertible products and sensor-equipped taps, while this rate stands at 37 percent in restaurants and 22 percent in private institutions. The research reveals that environmental awareness has no effect on the purchasing processes of establishments in the out-of-home consumption sector. In both cleaning chemicals and paper products, 3 out of every 10 purchasers stated they would not pay more for environmentally friendly products. When price and eco-friendly product criteria are compared, price proves to be 3 times more effective than environmental sensitivity in the purchasing process. If new products are to be purchased, certificates such as ISO certification and TSE guarantee are deemed sufficient.Eczacıbaşı Profesyonel most responsible company
