Green Organized Industrial Zone for Düzce A signing ceremony was held for the feasibility support project to adapt the infrastructure of the Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) to be established in Çilimli district of Düzce to Green OIZ standards. Chamber President Tuncay Şahin, who delivered the opening remarks of the ceremony, stated that the green agreement must be taken seriously, noting: "As you know, in 2019 the European Union published the European Green Deal. The Green Deal is an approach that addresses economic growth, global warming and the disruption of natural balance with a scenario that will minimize them. The most important matter concerning us is that companies that cannot comply with this agreement will no longer be able to export to the EU as before, and no entity that disregards the environment will be able to exist. We must comply with the obligations brought by this green agreement announced by the European Union, to which we export more than half of our country's exports, and we must take this matter very seriously. In fact, nobody is ready for the green agreement today. However, we in Düzce have a serious level of awareness. We took a position on the Green Deal and first thought that Çilimli OIZ should be the first OIZ to be established as a green OIZ in Turkey," Şahin said.

Achieving another first

Düzce Mayor Dr. Faruk Özlü stated, "We are here today for a good cause. We are quite sensitive about environmental issues. This is a project we are satisfied with. We are achieving another first in Düzce. After this, we will achieve many more firsts. We will respect the environment. We will leave a clean Düzce for our children. As a municipality, we have taken many steps in this direction and will continue to do so," he said. Mayor Özlü then informed participants about the current status of the projects they prepared for Düzce, saying: "We are implementing the Asar Stream project. We completed a 20-month planning process. To ensure the project is successful and functional, we performed a simulation of the stream's 100-year discharge capacity. We will break ground next month.

This project of ours received an award from the Turkish Municipalities Association. The award amount of TRY 100,000 was deposited into our municipality's account. An additional TRY 500,000 will be deposited once we begin work. Our operations are progressing smoothly," he announced.

Municipality to build modern industrial site Mayor Özlü also shared that the drinking water infrastructure project will be re-tendered. Referring to the Cedidiye Square Project, construction work on which will begin in July, Özlü said that the Modern Marketplace project, which began construction in Aziziye District, will generate energy thanks to solar panels, marking a first in Turkey. Özlü also shared the news of the relocation of the old industrial bazaar and its takeover from TOKI, noting that the modern industrial site will be built by Düzce Municipality.
