Low-Carbon Champions Honored with Awards

The 9th Istanbul Carbon Summit, organized by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D) with main support from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change and Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ), was held on 6-7 May 2024 under the theme "Risks, Opportunities and Carbon Trading Resulting from Climate Change," and the "Low Carbon Heroes" awards ceremony was also held at the event. At the 9th Carbon Summit held at Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ), carbon management achievements and greenhouse gas reduction practices that strengthened environmental, social and governance sustainability indicators in organizations' green, digital and circular transformations were recognized. Awards were presented to companies at the "Low Carbon Heroes" awards ceremony held on the final day of the event. Awards were given to 27 organizations identified following detailed assessment by Prof. Dr. Şule Itıroğlu, Vice Rector of İTÜ. In statements regarding the summit, Prof. Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoğlu extended her thanks to the speakers at the summit and emphasized that they had conducted a carbon-neutral summit. Prof. Karaosmanoğlu stated that as SÜT-D, they aimed to support those who have excelled in carbon management in sustainable production, consumption and services, and those working against climate change, and thereby increase awareness of the subject in society with high stakeholder participation; she noted that they recognized greenhouse gas reduction achievements reflected in sustainability management under its main heading, particularly in environmental indicators as well as social and governance indicators. İMMİB was among the award-winning organizations Prof. Karaosmanoğlu said, "For this award, which is not presented as a competition and does not involve comparing candidates with each other, we evaluate not only the candidates but also the achievements of individuals and institutions identified through SÜT-D's sectoral monitoring. This year we broke our record for the number of candidates. We recognized the achievements of 27 organizations and presented awards, detailing our reasons during the ceremony. AKBAŞLAR Tekstil; AKSA Doğalgaz; AYDEM Enerji; BARAN Teknoloji; CFN Kimya; DURACELL; ENDA Enerji; ENERJİSA Üretim; EPİAŞ; ESCON; FİBA Yenilenebilir Enerji; GALATA Wind; ITC; İSTAÇ; KALYON PV; OEDAŞ; PETRONET; PETROL OFİSİ; POLİSAN; SCHNEIDER Electric Türkiye; SOCAR Türkiye Ar-Ge ve İnovasyon; TAYRAŞ; TİM; TÜRK TELEKOM; VESTEL; ZORLU Enerji have been announced as SÜT-D 2024 Low Carbon Heroes. Our SÜT-D selection is the Istanbul Minerals and Metals Exporters Association (İMMİB). We found İMMİB worthy of the award for its "Climate-Friendly Communication" with indisputable critical importance regarding carbon management for the production-export pair, through technically sound and clear Turkish language information on its website, social media use and European Union bulletin work, and its high widespread impact. We sincerely congratulate our heroes, who are a source of pride for our stakeholder impact, and wish for a low-carbon footprint, happy and, in short, planet-friendly life," she said.
