Danfoss's New Factory Runs on Green Energy

Danfoss's new facility at its Poland Grodzisk campus, designed for a carbon-neutral future and providing energy savings through electric systems, can operate 45 production lines without using fossil fuels. While industrial energy consumption accounts for 39 percent of global carbon emissions, Danfoss's new factory at its Poland Grodzisk campus was specifically designed for a carbon-neutral future. All heating, cooling, ventilation systems and machinery at the facility operate on green energy generated from renewable energy sources, with no fossil fuels used. Spanning 13,077 square metres, the new factory comprises approximately 35 percent of Danfoss's existing Grodzisk campus, bringing the company closer to its goal of making the entire Grodzisk campus carbon neutral within the next two years. Adam Jedrzejczak, Regional Head of Danfoss Eastern Europe, commented on the factory's concept: "Actually, the greenest energy is the energy we don't use. The philosophy behind any energy use in this factory is based on that principle. We are extremely proud of the result." At the new facility, more than ten energy-saving formulas have been developed, including capturing and reusing heat generated by machine operations. The factory's air-conditioning system converts heat from the machinery to heat the building. This process takes place inside large heat exchangers where discharged warm air heats cold air. The result is free and greener energy use. The factory's heat pumps and cooling units also help reduce energy consumption. These units draw heat or cold from air or water to provide a comfortable indoor temperature. They are also used to cool machinery when needed. Martin Oredson Haugaard, Head of Danfoss Global Services, Real Estate and Technical Consulting, stated: "Energy-efficient systems are extremely effective and have proven their effectiveness. For example, the building's heat exchanger-based air-conditioning system recovers 83 percent of the heat generated by the machinery. It cannot get better than that." Placing sustainability at the centre of its 'Core & Clear 2025' strategy and working towards leading positions in Decarbonisation, Circularity and Diversity & Inclusion, Danfoss's new 13,077-square-metre facility represents approximately 35 percent of its existing Grodzisk campus. The company also plans to make the entire Grodzisk campus carbon neutral within the next two years. The approach for this project will be the same as the new factory, focused on energy efficiency through the transition to electric systems and the use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.
