ÇEVKO Foundation Sends Message on Climate Crisis

ÇEVKO Foundation Issues Statement on Climate Crisis ÇEVKO Foundation, combining expert industry initiative and effective civil society organization identities, called for urgent action against the climate crisis in a message released for World Environment Day. The message, emphasizing that individuals, civil society, media, academic institutions, businesses, local authorities, central governments, parliaments and international organizations all have important roles to play in fighting the climate crisis—a chronic threat to the world and humanity—was released alongside a video providing information on what individuals must do. The message also included ÇEVKO Foundation's 10 solution proposals to address the climate crisis. ÇEVKO Foundation released a special message for World Environment Day. The message, published alongside a video emphasizing what individuals can do in fighting the climate crisis and the contribution of recycling, contained the following statements: ÇEVKO Foundation, established in 1991 through the commitment of pioneering organizations with environmental awareness, combines expert industry initiative and effective civil society organization identities. World Environment Day, which is of great importance in raising awareness on sustainable environment with the contribution of media organizations, carries our core message: "Human life depends on the environmental sustainability of the world we live on, action must be taken against the climate crisis before it is too late, and individuals, civil society, media, academic institutions, businesses, local authorities, central governments, parliaments and international organizations have important responsibilities in this regard." Regarding what needs to be done against the climate crisis, as ÇEVKO Foundation, we have developed a proposal package consisting of 10 points: 1-Turkey must set absolute emission reduction targets to reach its 2053 "carbon neutral" goal, 2-climate law and regulations must be enacted and implemented rapidly, 3-limits and costs must be placed on carbon emissions through an Emissions Trading System or similar mechanisms, 4-coal must be phased out gradually in energy production, 5-forests and carbon sinks must be increased, 6-energy efficiency and renewable energy must be increased, 7-emissions from the energy sector, industry, buildings, transport, agriculture and waste must be reduced, 8-regional adaptation plans must be developed and implemented, 9-serious financial resources must be allocated for these, and 10-a national awareness campaign must be established.
