Borusan Cat converts facilities in line with Zero Waste Regulation

Borusan Cat redesigned its facilities across Turkey in accordance with the Zero Waste Regulation. The company, which reorganized its Gebze, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Trabzon, and Diyarbakır facilities according to the T.C. Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change's zero waste management system applications, became the holder of Zero Waste Certificates at all its facilities. With the company objective of "We Produce Solutions for a Better World," Borusan Cat, which operates in Turkey as well as the Caucasus and Central Asia and is celebrating its 30th year of establishment, transformed its facilities across Turkey according to the Zero Waste Regulation with the goal of "zero waste certified offices and facilities." Through this reorganization, the company became the holder of "Zero Waste Certificates" at all its facilities. The company aims to eliminate the use of plastic PET bottles at all its facilities within one year and to reduce the total amount of waste by 5 percent annually.
USD 62.4 million contribution to circular economy
Borusan Cat, which began work on waste management systems in 2020, implemented various applications ranging from restricting the use of colored cartridges in photocopiers to discontinuing PET bottle usage and switching to the use of thermoses, and organized detailed training sessions for its teams. The company placed additional waste containers at facilities and, working with environmental consultants, created temporary storage areas at waste zones suitable for the type of waste to enable recycling. In 2023, the company recovered approximately 450 tons of waste material and sent 116 tons of waste to energy recovery facilities. Through its proactive business model combined with sustainability, Borusan Cat reduces carbon emissions while contributing to the circular economy. In 2023, through its operations in Turkey as well as international operations, the company reused 6,517 tons of material, bringing it into the circular economy and directly creating value equivalent to USD 62.4 million. Borusan Cat aims to reuse 9,000 tons of material annually by 2030, creating further value for the circular economy.
