BASF Works to Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions

BASF accelerates work toward CO₂ reduction targets. BASF is accelerating its operations with a new project organization to reduce CO₂ emissions by 25% by 2030 compared to 2018 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The newly established unit, called "Net Zero Accelerator," will focus on the implementation and acceleration of projects related to low-emission production technologies, circular economy and renewable energies. Dr. Martin Brudermüller, Chairman of the Executive Board of BASF SE, made a statement on the matter. Brudermüller said: "With our new project organization, we are continuing to accelerate the achievement of our ambitious targets within BASF and build stronger structures. This step demonstrates our commitment to advancing our transformation toward a climate-neutral company."

Projects to Move to Implementation Phase

The Net Zero Accelerator unit will be headed by Dr. Lars Kissau (48). Under Kissau's leadership, the Net Zero Accelerator unit will launch existing and new projects to achieve CO₂ reduction targets and advance these projects globally. The unit's objective will be to move projects into the implementation phase within the next several years. BASF will increase implementation speed and realize scaling effects more rapidly by bringing together expertise around renewable energies, alternative raw materials and CO₂ reduction technologies. In this way, the company will make a significant contribution to climate protection. Among the cross-company projects managed by the newly established unit are BASF's activities in the circular economy such as ChemCyclingTM and CO₂-free technologies such as methane pyrolysis.
