BASF's Çayırova production facility has qualified for the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC), recognized by major reporting frameworks such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP). BASF's Çayırova production facility, which operates in the personal care sector, has taken an important step toward meeting its emissions targets by obtaining the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC). The certificate demonstrates that 100 percent of the electricity consumed by the production facility comes from renewable sources. The Çayırova production facility has reduced its carbon footprint resulting from green electricity demand and carbon emissions by approximately 65 percent compared to 2018, while the facility has significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions by focusing on operational excellence projects aimed at optimizing raw material, steam and electricity consumption since 2015. The Çayırova facility has already achieved its carbon emission reduction target set for 2030 in relation to current production volumes, bringing it one step closer to its goal of reducing its carbon footprint to zero by 2050. Turgay Kocatürk, Plant Manager at BASF Çayırova, noted that they have recently focused on operational excellence and implemented improvements at facilities that reduce carbon, stating: "Local authorities have also recognized these efforts and deemed us worthy of the 2021 Low Carbon Champion Award. As the Çayırova facility, by providing 100 percent green energy and implementing operational cost measures, we are moving forward with determination toward achieving our sustainability targets." BASF aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its production facilities and energy procurement globally by 25 percent by 2030 compared to 2018. BASF is also continuing its work toward achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
